6.8 on Richter scale. Epicenter about 45 miles from Marrakech - unfortunately, many people dead. Very sad. I was just there not long ago.
A horrific tragedy. The number of deaths and injuries are sure to rise to a staggering number, I fear.
Oh no. Hoping for the best for those people. I hear it's a really beautiful/fascinating area/culture.
I got an alert shortly after it happened, and even then they were saying there were 100-300 ppl already estimated to be dead. No telling what that total will end up being. There are videos online of buildings collapsing and live cctv and other footage of the quake as it happened. Crazy.
been in 6+ earthquakes a couple of times, or at least close to it. the feeling isn’t fun. rip to all the victims
I was there 2 months ago. I recognize a couple of the places from the pictures of destruction in Marrakech. A few years back, visited Puebla Mexico and an earthquake came soon after I left, damaging the historic church there. I might be bringing destruction.
I once visited the National Corvette Museum and a sinkhole inside it swallowed several rare/classic cars a week or two later. I, too, bring the wrath.
I hate to bring this up and I do not mean to make anything and everything political, and it is awful to read the news about the Morocco earthquake with its death count at 2600+ and rising… but it truly baffles me how Fox News buries this story at the very bottom of their website under “Weather” related news, that or under the category ”Travel & Outdoors” as they did with the Turkey earthquake earlier in the year. right now you can find upwards of 50 or more stories (I lost count) before you will find this blurb behind categories including “Food & Drink”, Business, Autos, Sports, “Faith and Values”, Movies, Personal Finance, Technology, “Family”, U.S., Military, Entertainment, ”America Together”, Crime, Health, Opinion, World, “Personal Freedoms”, “Fox News Flash”, “Digital Originals”, and Economy sections on their home page
I am always empathetic but I play an app game with a teammate from Morocco, she is the sweetest person. 23 looks like a absolute model and is the most kind person.. When this news broke I instantly thought of her and reached out on discord and praying she is ok - turns out she was ok …thankfully Just a game friend, trust me I’m married, not messing around… But the further sad thing is her mother lives in Morocco her father lives in Saudi Arabia which he is from and I guess they are separate now he’s pressuring her to move there…
Some reports are saying there are presumably over 5000 people dead and possibly another 10,000 missing in the flooding in Libya. I'm not sure how much we'll hear about that, either. There are over 2900 hundred dead now in the quake in Morocco.
The death toll in this earthquake is bound to rise much higher. It sounds like a lot of the damage was in remote villages and that government relief was very slow to arrive. Even when it did they didn’t do a lot. This sounds like another natural disaster compounded by poor human actions.
