Shallow target location a pretty accurate reflection of the offensive line's inability to protect longer developing concepts. Don't pretend to be an English Major or anything, Crumpler, just say that the OL sucked and he didn't have enough time to go deep very often.
He looked pretty good to me too. Im loving what I see I agree with you but the o-line was not getting any push, so they did not have a running game and the only way they could move the ball was to pass. Also, Demeco said early on that he did not want to over use Pierce
Wow, the O Line was bad, at least CJ is going to learn how to get out of trouble rather quickly with this group. I thought CJ was fine, I will be happy when he has a cleaner pocket. The D looked really good, Will Anderson is going to be a beast. Looks like we may have something (finally) in Nico. I am hoping Tank can show a little bit more.................overall I would give the team a C- and I hope to see improvement each week. One thing that stood out to me was the aggressiveness of the D, love seeing that.
We won’t really know what these QBs are until teams start game planning for them. This is a pretty obvious tell for Anthony Richardson if he doesn’t figure out how to better distribute and see the field.
Looks like you just evaluated his performance in successive posts. So I guess it is possible to evaluate play behind this OL. I doubt the coaches are going to throw away the tape without looking at it just because some linemen were injured.
Coaches like to bring rookies along slowly. I can see that being the reason Noah Brown has more snaps than Tank. Next game vs Colts or Jags, I can see that swap.
I only watched Redzone so I may be wrong, but felt like the offensive playcalling was super elementary/conservative especially when we had chances to score. Did we even take any shots into the endzone? Other than that defense looked improved from what I saw which was good. Hopefully they open up the playbook a bit when they get more confident in Stroud.
There weren't any shots into the endzone, but there also wasn't much time to throw as the offensive line was largely overwhelmed for the majority of the game. Stroud did have quite a bit of success throwing over the middle and they probably should have tried at least one throw into the endzone that way. There were way too many pass plays behind the line of scrimmage.
Agree. I honestly hate screen passes. It's not like we have a Gronk or Kelce type player who can bulldoze down defenders, or find wide open routes for big yards.
The playcalling was pretty hit or miss. It was pretty clear to me that there were lots of rookies out there, including both the head coach (some really odd 4th down decisions imo, a fairly hands off 'hoo rah' demeanour that reminded me way too much of Stephen Silas to be honest) and offensive coordinator, not just the players. The 4th down playcalls were ... for lack of a better word, stupid. The playcalling in the red zone was pretty meh. One play call that really stood out to me was right after the RT had to be pulled and they moved on to their 3rd string just elevated from practice squad right tackle, and seemed to call a passing play that both took some time for routes to develop AND most importantly provided no extra protection on the right side for that tackle that was clearly going to be outmatched. That said, maybe there is only so much you can do playcalling wise when seemingly your entire line is injured... AND you are getting called for (whether stupid nitpicky or right) penalties at inopportune times. AND the run game is generally non-existent. On the positive side, i like that they did try and give CJ an outlet for when he was pressured. On the negative side, that outlet almost always was 3-4 yards behind the line of scrimmage way off towards the sideline with no room to run. I would have liked to have seen more outlets 3-4 yards past the line of scrimmage just in the middle of the field... this seems to be where CJ is most comfortable throwing right now anyway. To that point, he was exceptional on inside slant routes so in general wish they had more of those. And further along those lines, and this is just a complain i have in general for Texans offense the last, idk, decade lol... where is the tight end? Especially since CJ is solid up the middle? And Dalton is a decent enough tight end. As far as i can remember his only targets were those release when pressure side throws. Just my two cents, but if you have a TE that can both block and catch, creative use of that tight end is a GREAT way to help build a successful offense. Is he George Kittle? No, but he's capable and you'd think given what the 49ers did with tight ends, there'd be more Dalton in the passing game. Of course all of the above is somewhat mute if protection is better and the run game is improved... though i'd still make the same arguments just then to maximize the offense. My two cents.... not knowing nearly as much about football as basketball.
