i liked Kilby on the original Daily Show but didn't care for his CBS show. he'd probably be better suited to acting or maybe even becoming a politician? Who should replace him as host of TLLS? Ellen DeGeneres? Jay Mohr? Colin Quinn? Chris Rock?
Once, when Olbermann visited our office, I got him to tell us stories about Kilborn (stuff about him dumping his girlfriend to date an escort, bragging about crappy ratings, etc). From what I gather, Kilborn's television persona (which includes his role is Old School) is actually how he acts all the time. (Yeah, yeah... Captain Obvious. I know. Still, I'm just confirming from an official source that the guy IS indeed a prick.) Do I watch his show? Hell no. Conan rules! (Then again, I don't watch Olbermann's show, either. )
Hey Vescey, Cool story about Olbermann but Keith saying that stuff about Kilborn is sorta like the old adage "pot calling kettle black", wouldn't you think? Personally, I like both of them but I have read and talked to people who think they are BOTH major assholes.
I just read that the guy who CBS might try to get to replace Kilborn is................................................Conan O'brien. Basically, Conan wants to get the earlier slot and if CBS could gurantee him Letterman's job when he steps down, it could be a done deal. One problem is that Conan's contract doesn't end til Dec. next year. So, CBS would have to take the risk of not getting a permanent replacement for a year an half to wait on the Conan gamble.
If that's the case, I don't see why its much of a gamble for CBS... Conan is definitely worth it. Letterman has at least 2-3 years left... but after that, who can say? Conan's next gig HAS to be in the earlier slot, no matter what network he is on. He's succeeded tremendously at late night, and there's nowhere else to conquer.
Maybe its just me, but do people still watch these late night talk shows. I would say that occasionally I stumble onto an interesting interview. But for the most part, it seems like there is always a better choice on another channel.
I don't watch Conan for the interviews, I watch him for the skits. That's why his show is the best. I still don't get the Lettermen comparisons. Can somebody tell me what Conan does that is similar to what Letterman use to do?
