The player you quoted is much more focused on defense than on offense, no wonder he doesn't think highly of the Rockets :D.

Thanks for indulging, dude. I think it's awesome that non- Houstonians are Rockets fans ,and it's super cool that you have passed that fandom to your son. I believe it's the most special fandom in sports. I may be a bit biased though.

I have been a fan of the Rockets since the early 90's. All my friends at the time were fans of Jordan and the Bulls. But I chose something different. Olajuwon caught my eye, I just loved the way he moved. Then it turned me into a Rockets fan. Always tried to find a way to follow during the 90's and early 2000's. Then the internet started to improve and made it more easier to watch games. I love basketball though, and as I get older I have really started to appreciate the great players more, even if they are the enemy. So I am also trying to teach that to my son.

I guess it was on me, assuming that you were posting photos next to the players, as opposed to photos of a man's torso and fan shots from the seats.

So in general I don't really put much stock into what a random NBA player thinks. Let's be honest, they aren't the sharpest tools in the shed, have their prejudices and pre-conceived notions of others and likely don't even follow bottom of the league teams. They are just as likely to go with the narrative that ESPN and NBA pundits put out there as any random follower of the NBA would, especially if they're not a fan of the team it's concerning.

Having something to prove focuses a team.
First, they have to prove they don't suck.
Then, that they are a team to be feared.

If you look around you'll find "40 wins" in a lot of the prediction threads.

Of course people will now argue that 40 isn't good; however it's basically "on par" in the most elite league in the world. I'm not sure how people see the team immediately getting there but I'll be fine with seeing it happen. My expectation is 32 wins, that would be a +10 win improvement.

I fail to see why someone who focus more on offense would somehow think the Rockets are a good team though. FVV and Sengun are above average offensive players. Eason should be at low usage but probably not in any expanded role. Green and KPJ have never shown the ability to run a competent offense. Jabari was one of the worst offensive players last year. Dillon Brooks at best is going to be below average, perhaps with less usage. Tate is maybe average backup? Thompson and Whitmore are rookies.

If anything this team has more defensive upside. Brooks, Tari, Jabari, Amen, and FVV are all capable defenders from a skills standpoint. Green and KPJ can improve their effort under Udoka. We may actually have an average defense this year assuming Sengun isn't a traffic cone in the paint.

Imeh to me is a defensive coach first and foremost. You are right about that one.

Also Udoka will teach them how to play the half court better.

That is still TBD. Boston's offense during his year there was not that amazing and got really bogged down at times. They were a much better offensive team the next year under Mazzulla. By far Udoka's main accomplishment in Boston was getting the entire team to play insane defense especially towards the end of that year.

I still expect our half court offense to be much better simply because he can't be worse than Silas at the job and FVV is really good, but I'd still bet against reaching average level of offense next year.

People forgot that Silas was a coach with qualities on the offensive side. He was disorganized and not smart about it but he had the players create open shots, mostly they did not go in.

The one thing Silas let those players create was open shots.

I expect it to be different but Offense is usually initiated by defensive stops so there is that.
