Always thought the current logo looked like the B from the Buffy the Vampire Slayer font. Looks more like it's dripping blood to me than a Rocket taking off. Wish they would do an updated version of the championship team's logo.
It was a bad design for sports by someone that didn't understand sports logos. It was also an open hand reaching out to a new part of the world, in a desperate cash grab attempt. I wouldn't hate changing it.
What frustrates me is that the Rockets so deeply tied their marketing to China with Yao. They have been making money off that logo for years with the huge China market and now don't want to threaten losing that revenue stream by abandoning the logo. I guess in many ways I can't blame them but when you have the worst logo in the league you need to do something about it. There's revenue being lost locally as well cause no one wants to wear that ugly trash here.
With all this resurgence of height and length on the team (Thompson, Eason, Smith, Sengun, etc) maybe we should just go back to the dildo logo but stretch it out a bit, you know, to represent the new era.
This remains the best logo. All the good NBA logos have largely remained unchanged throughout the years (e.g. Lakers, Knicks, Spurs, Celtics, etc.). Moving on from the red and yellow uniforms with the iconic basketball within its red frame to the Looney Tunes pajama stripe uniforms with its cartoon logo was one of the worst decisions in franchise history.
