I never watched yellowstone but recently started watching 1883 and am a big fan through 4 epsiodes. Its also by sheridan and is suppose to be a notch better than Yellowston due to writing and budget. I was a fan of Justified for the character and writing which gave me an Elmore Leonard vibe. 1883 is more unforgiven than tombstone/sicaro in terms of the feel/aesthetic.

Dickie Bennett : Raylan... I seen you and your big hat on TV the other day. Raylan Givens : How'd it look? Dickie Bennett : Like always.
Not digging the vibe of the show. Hopefully it's because I was so used to the original setting, and will come around to it.
First two episodes are out on Hulu, watched them last night. I enjoyed them both, Timothy Olyphant can play Raylan in his sleep so throwing in the teenage kid mixes it up a bit. Boyd Holbrook could make for an interesting villain, looking forward to the rest of the season....
Is this sort of like when Deputy Enos from Dukes of Hazzard got his own spinoff show and moved to the big city of LA to partner with a street smart city cop?
I never finished the first Justified series got to like Episode 5 of the final season and ran out of gas......probably should finish. DD
I've watched 4 episodes so far. While it is Justified, the dialogue has not lived up to the previous levels. Maybe because they have new characters to develop, but the cat and mouse game between Raylan and his villains, the dialogue where they toe the line of incrimination, just isn't there yet. I'll continue to watch, but there isn't as much amusement from this season. I do like Boyd Holbrook, he had the charisma to make a good villain. The dialogue needs to step up a notch, though. Also, cannot stand his daughter's voice. It's a very nasally baby voice. It's interesting that they cast Olyphant's real daughter for the role. I wonder if she truly speaks like that. I hope my kid doesn't grow up to have that voice, I would probably shove a knife into my ear canal.
I think the original showrunner Graham Yost was a big reason why the dialogue in the original was faithfully Elmore Leonardesque. This time he's only around as an executive producer, which means he's probably not really involved and just gets a check in the mail.
I will mention that the daughter leaves a little before midway in the season which helps. Haven't seen the most recent episode but I'd put in it the good category so far.....
Man, I hate to give it this rating but I'd have to rate this a C. Watch it if you really want to see more Raylan but this is nothing like the OG seasons. You might as well be watching Bosch or any other serialized crime procedural. Don't get me wrong, I liked Bosch and watched a few seasons. But those shows don't stand out like Justified did.
