They originally said Scruggs was taken out for precautionary reasons. That sucks. He was showing to be a savant at Center.
This is really concerning, considering Nick picked Kenyon Green #15 and Kendrick Green is a bust by all the news coming out of Pittsburgh
So did we trade for a FB or an OL? Why did Nick trade for this bust? https://theathletic.com/4761553/2023/08/10/steelers-kendrick-green-fullback/ The 315-pound guard-turned-center, who has been written off as a bust of a third-round pick two years into his pro career, has at least taken the opportunity given to him by Mike Tomlin and Matt Canada. Green went from three plays during a Friday Night Lights practice to joining the running back drills, to catching passes after practice on the Jugs machine to being a lead blocker Tuesday for running back Najee Harris in a live goal line drill. It isn’t very often a player can get a second shot after failing as miserably as Green did his first two years. As a rookie, he started 15 games at center but was overwhelmed at times. A move to guard last year quickly fell apart in the second preseason game, as Arden Key and the Jaguars’ defensive line abused Green. He allowed two sacks and four pressures in a limited time with the first team. Green not only had to live through playing awful against the Jaguars, but two days later, Tomlin put the plays on the screen during a team meeting. Green never got another shot as Kevin Dotson took over at left guard, and Green became the butt of many jokes. “It was tough looking back on it,” said Green, who stayed on the 53-man roster last year but never dressed. “I am glad I got through it, but it wasn’t easy. I was frustrated.” With Green buried on the depth chart as the third-team center and fourth-team guard, the staff came to him and asked him to rep some at fullback — a look he gave the team last year in preparation for the game against the Ravens and Ricard. Tomlin said the team “put that in our hip pocket” until a week into camp. “That guy’s a unique guy,” Tomlin said. “In an environment like this man, we want to see what guys can do adding to their cause and ours, and he’s shown some flexibility there.” On his first snap at fullback in the padded practice Friday, Green came across the back of the formation to open a lane for running back Darius Hagans on a wham block of linebacker Quincy Roche. On the second rep, Green flared out of the backfield and caught a pass from Mason Rudolph. On his third and final rep, Green went in motion and bulled over linebacker Toby Ndukwe on another wham block. The following day, Green caught a pass in the flat and ran through linebacker Tanner Muse for 10 yards. “He is a freak athlete,” Kenny Pickett said. “I did not know he was that athletic. They tried to tackle him low the other day. He put his hand down and kept running. That’s not normal stuff for guys that are that big.” It might seem highly unlikely that the experiment will last. But with Canada’s influence in the offense, that might be premature thinking. However, Green is going to have to do it in preseason games starting Friday against the Bucs. He will get his opportunity at fullback. What he does with it will go a long way toward whether this continues. “He may look more intimidating from the other side, but at the end of the day, you have to do your job, so we will see about that,” Harris said. “The only way you find that out is in the game.” Incidentally, a few hours later during practice, Green blasted open a hole on the right side from the fullback spot in an I-formation, springing Harris for 25 yards and a touchdown. “I can catch a little bit,” Green said, looking at his hands. “These work a little bit from playing backyard football in the day.”
Yea, they are saying this dude sucks..............so why are the Texans picking him up out of all the players to get cut today, no better option?
