My guess is that he’s doing the thing where he’s willing to lose one game… in order to try and win 2. He did similar stuff in Houston last week where he saved his bullpen after Paxton gave up 6 runs and they had Murphy just finish the rest of the game regardless of his effectiveness (gave up 3 runs). I guess that did equip them to have as much bullpen weapons as possible which helped them in the extra inning game that Jansen got hurt in. It only makes sense when you’re in the midst of a long stretch of consecutive games and every game is a must win… except obviously the one you’re willing to sacrifice.
