I would not put it that way, but yes, her character seemed unnatural and it was probably her other work being so diffferent..
This show is an obvious Dave Filoni love letter to the fans of Clone Wars and Rebels. Time will tell if it'll be able to be enjoyed by folks that did not watch those shows.
I think you'd need to watch Rebels to know how important she is to the story and Ezra especially, she really shouldn't be killed off this early (or ever). This show seems made for the die-hard fans that loved Clone Wars and Rebels, I think it is assumed you watched them or know the plot &characters at least. I said it in this thread before, I don't think it makes a lot of sense to watch this without having seen Rebels, it's like picking up a random show in season 4 or something and not knowing any of the characters or their motivations, prior plot etc. I really encourage everyone to give Rebels a chance, on my 2nd rewatch it was much more mature than I remembered, it really nails a lot of the jedi/sith themes and the jedi&padawan relationships. I'd honestly place it as my favourite Star Wars show now.
Good article about the issues that the vast, vast majority of SW fans who have never watched any of the animated series, and also the "map to a guy" plot problems. https://uproxx.com/movies/ahsoka-star-wars-review/
I think the first 2 episodes did enough to convey the information the casuals "need" to know about Ahsoka and Sabine as protagonists to enjoy the show. I hope Filoni had enough common sense to not make every episode something that requires Rebels viewership to appreciate. It's an absurd demand of viewers who haven't seen Rebels, which I imagine is the majority, if not the vast majority. Ultimately the continued failings of the Disney+ shows isn't character Q scores, it's simply the fact that they've mostly sucked. Obi Wan Kenobi is known to even non Star Wars fans and featured Vader prominently, didn't stop the show from being a steaming pile of trash. If this show is well done I don't think the mountain of character depth casuals are missing will be a problem, if the show isn't good knowing the characters won't save it. And yes, the star maps is a painfully played out plot device. Why the f**k is Thrawns location even on a star map. Just collect the information the old fashioned way by busting heads and being told where to go, and then being there in the next scene.
I understand that this might not be the best show for a lot of ppl who never watched clone wars and rebels, but I think this show was created because they realized how many hardcore fans got totally turned off by the Sequel trilogy and the bad handling of the Boba&Kenobi shows. They are trying to find a balance and retain the core audience, so a show like this will probably always happen in-between the more mainstream stuff like Mandalorian, Andor etc. People here also mentioned the dialogue with heavier emphasis on pauses and facial expressions, this show is basically a live version of Rebels and nails everything so far.
It's a bit complicated because of how Rebels ended, Thrawn and Ezra got to that space region in a very unconventional way and no one can locate them in a usual manner.
fwiw I don’t think Baylan and Shin are necessarily “Sith”- they are more like “Dark Jedi” this show is essentially a live action Season 5 of Rebels by Dave Filoni, picking up on the storyline where they left off and even recreating some ending scenes from that series shot for shot. It’s all headed towards the Filoni movie that will tie all of the Mandalorian era shows together, and it’s also setting up an explainable backstory that eventually leads to the rise of the First Order in the sequel trilogy. “somehow Palpatine returned…”
Gonna be interesting to see how this plays out, now that the Baylan actor died after they finished filming season one. Hope this doesn't alter the second season too drastically, in case he was integral to the plot.
After seeing him in episode 1, he was good. So no doubt he was going be kept alive for another season. They are going to have to figure this out.
Ray Stevenson's bad MFer appearance is the top appeal of the character. Honestly both of them were amazing casting. The apprentice has crazy screen presence also, it's like she's on the brink of losing her s**t every time she's on screen. It contrasts perfectly with his in command of everything look.
