He should be treating this like its April. There should not be a sense of urgency. He should just play his best players most of time, and it should start on Opening Day. Caveat: I'm fine with load management as long as it involves the trainer in the decision making process and not a manager having an extra day rule that isn't based on health of a player. Also, pitcher usage could be tweeked some in late September if needed, but besides that, it is a long season and players and pitchers should get rest when needed.
There is absolutely no legitimate baseball reason to pinch hit for Meyers with Dubon. Dubon has a 61 wRC+ since the All star break, Meyers is 107. Meyers is 5 for his last 13 (.385) over the last4 games, hitting in all 4. Dubon had struck out 3 of his previous 7 ABs including against Winchowski the night before. Meyers is the better choice 100 out of 100 times. That's a flat out terrible managerial decision when there was a chance to win the game.
I keep thinking maybe there is some logical explanation for Dubon over Meyers that I don't know of. When you combine it with Julks then pinch hitting afterward, it just throws any explanation out the window.
Meyers started yesterday. Been about 3 weeks since Dusty has done that without Chas being "hurt". So, I'm going to guess probably not. Also, Dusty might show a sense of urgency and start Maldy.
I guarantee Dusty was thinking 2 things with Dubon 1) PH a CF for a CF, genius (nevermind Dubon is inferior to Meyers) 2) Gotta get my homies in the game (Dubon AND Julks) After losing the DH, it was stupid to burn extra bench options in the first place. Meyers clearly should've remained in the game.
There is no logical explanation - Dusty needed a PH in the pitchers spot, so saving Dubon for that moment made the most sense (since Alvarez was going to get the day off). Instead, he used Dubon, with his .673 OPS, to replace Meyers, who by most measures is a marginally better at bat. Not only that, but Dubon is more of a double play risk, since despite his looks, he is incredibly slow, while Meyers is one of our speedier runners. Meyers also walks from time to time, and as mentioned by others, has been hitting much better lately. I'm not saying that it's all on Dusty, since we missed other opportunities in this game, but the decision to PH Dubon at Meyers spot makes no sense at all.
Madison Bumgarner won the 2014 postseason basically by himself. If we get there we not only can win we will be favored.
Yea Salisbury is a tool All Dusty all the time. Of course he is an awful quarterback from california, so shouldn't surprise anyone
Dusty had to give Julks, Mr. 1 for his last 41, one more start because he knows Dana is about to send him to Sugar Land when Brantley returns.
[/QUOTE] Are they giving Abreu's back a break? He hit last night. I don't get why Baker has refused to put all his best players in the same game?
I think Dusty mentioned yesterday he'll play Abreu ever other game to rest him. Not sure how long that'll last. No idea why Julks is even playing.
