alot of folx are predicting that yao and T-mac
will both average 20 pts a game this year

    interesting considering . . unless i'm mistake
JVG has *never* coached a 20 pt per game scorer
not he is going to coach 2

will that freeze everyone else to near or below 10???

JJ and Howard seem to have been projected at 15 pts each
that is 65 pts from our starters

    is this realistic?

How do you see the scoring break down on this team to be

    I see:
    T-mac - 22.7
    Yao - 18.4
    Howard - 15.4
    JJ - 12.8
    Starting PG - 6.6

I can see T-mac and Yao combining for 40 a night
    but i doubt they both average 20 . . i think T-mac
will be carrying alot of the scoring load

    Rocket River
Who was the franchise player . . . shaq or kobe?

Remember that no player on a JVG coached team has ever averaged more than 20 ppg.

But a JVG coached team never had a two-time scoring champ, entering his prime, either.

And a rising center who scored 17.5 pts with only 12.5 attempt and no reference respect yet.

Yao only needs 15 shots to get his 20.

So Ewing averaged less than 20points w/JVG? I just dont see that. If your offense is built around our big man, Yao should average at least 23 points a night realisticly.

Yao is so incredibly efficient from the floor and line, and if he doesnt average 20 points, then he isnt getting the ball enough, or he's getting a ton of defensive attention.

i don't think yao will average 20 pts until the refs start giving him some calls.....who knows if this year will be the year.

I think Yao will average just less than 20 ppg, & T-mac will get around 22-23 ppg. Although there is a STRONG possible, both T-mac and Yao averaging 20 or more ppg.

Ewing did most of his 20+ scoring under Riley, his numbers declined steadily under JVG (probably due to age though).

But, I think Yao and TMac will have no problem averaging 20+ if JVG loosens the reigns a little. I think a big problem was that JVG was trying too hard to control the offense, running too much of a tight ship. Yao/TMac are good enough players to get the feel of each other and learn how to play with each other, w/o having JVG breathing down their neck.

Well Shaq and Kobe been averaging over 50pts for Lakers over the last couple of years except last year. I dont see why Yao and TMac can't combine for 40. Let say Yao will be taking 15spg and TMac will be taking around 18spg isn't out of the question.

i think it's blown out of proportion of the fact that JVG hasn't coached a 20ppg player. Yao should get his touches and if he does he will average 20ppg. Personally i could care less if he averages alittle less but i really hope he grabs 10 boards a game. I think being a 20/10 player is all talk. To me, it's just for show. Like, "hey he's a 20/10 player so you can't knock him". But i would be lieing if i said i wouldn't be happy if he does it.

T-Mac will get his 20. I don't really have any doubts about that. Tracy, just grab your 6 or so boards and dish out your 5 assists along with a block or 2 and ill be happy :D

Yao and T-Mac will help each other get to 20

With 2 weapons like that you can't focus on one or the other.

    I can't wait!!!!!

I agree. I don't mind having Ward averaging 14 rpg, or Motumbo averaging 28 ppg, or even Lue 8 bpg, as long as we win, I am happy.

Ewing scored 22.4 ppg in JVG's first full season. He averaged 22.5 in the prior season which JVG coached the final 23 games. He also averaged 20.4 ppg in JVG's 2nd full season, but only played 26 games (and only 32.6 mpg).

Houston never averaged 20 ppg (though he averaged 19.7 one year). But in the only 2 seasons he has averaged 20 ppg, he set career highs in FGA (twice), FTA (twice), and 3PA (twice). Not coincidentally, the Knicks were also a lotto team these two years- I certainly wouldn't hold that against JVG.

Sprewell averaged 18.1 ppg while under JVG- his career average is 18.8.

In 99-00, Houston scored 19.7 ppg while Sprewell scored 18.6 ppg. Both played all 82 games of the season. That's not too far away from having 2 20 ppg scorers. I would argue the difference in scoring level between those 2 and Yao/TMac (especially TMac) is vast enough that we could see 2 20 ppg.

Also keep in mind there were only 17 guys scoring more than 20 ppg in the league last year. In a 30 team league, that means less than 60% of the teams in the league will have 1 guy scoring 20+ let alone 2.

I have no doubts of TMac bust the 20 ppg margin, but I'm curious to see how much Yao's scoring steps up.

As long as the team wins and chemistry remains strong, I could care less who averages what.

i have a feeling Yao will really step up this season. His attitutde will change now that he is one of the few "seniors" left on the rox from the original group. He'll definately become more of a leader like he is as a "senior" on the chinese national team.
