Dusty Baker doesn’t get to decide lineups in the post season. He has a say about who makes the playoff roster but the line ups and pitching changes are made by the front office. With Abreu having a bad back since the end of Spring Training and Singleton being a AAAA player - it is possible that Diaz starts at first with Yordan in left and Brantley at DH - at a minimum, Brantley can pinch hit. Having said that - I am skeptical he will be good enough to help us after all of his time missed and injuries.
I agree about Brantley, unfortunately. The stuff about Dusty not making lineup or pitching decisions, and basically being impotent in running his team seems very odd to me. I’ve never heard that about any team, not that it means it doesn’t happen. Just seems strange to me and Dusty doesn’t seem like the type who would go for that.
The front office making the calls on who does and doesn’t play isn’t that uncommon. Dusty is different because unlike Hinch, he pushes back and has been largely allowed to play anyone he wants in the regular season. In the post season - the advanced scouts, coaches, front office and others all have a huge say in who makes the post season roster. Usually they reach an agreement - but not always. Last year the GM wanted Gurriel off the post season roster and Baker flipped out and Crane sided with Baker. As for line ups and moves in the post season, the leash is a lot tighter and it is all planned out ahead of time. At least that is how it was under Luhnow and Click. Could it be different under Brown? Maybe - but I doubt it because Crane likes to keep things that work. I remember posting about the front office having great sway in post season - going back to like 2016 - and then last year there was finally a quote from Dusty alluding to it. I am not personally overly worried about it because Baker manages differently in the post season anyway. My concern is getting there.
Wait, so we just gonna act like that’s the line? It’s “Hey Ladies” “I got more hits than Sadaharu Oh” I got all their jams but Paul’s Boutique is still the killa with check your head a close second followed by IC. At 19 I had no idea who Sadaharu Oh was until that release.
probably my fav skit song he’s ever done Guess who eats together at the Carnegie Deli Bowser from Sha Na Na and Arthur Fonzerelli Paul Newman's half Jewish, Goldie Hawn's half too Put them together, what a fine lookin' Jew and then this one Harrison fords a quarter Jewish, not too shabby
Wrong. But you're right that Paul's Boutique is still, to this day, an album I can listen to from beginning to end. You're thinking of 2 different songs from 2 different albums about 2 different baseball players: Hey Ladies and Sure Shot.
Wrong what? That’s not the best baseball bar spit it’s hey ladies, two different records but that line hits
No I’m saying that the Sadaharu Oh line is deeper, in 1989 no one had a ****ing clue who he was, a Nippon beast, everyone knew who Carew was…..
well he really isn’t managing “differently” then. He wouldn’t really be managing at all. That’s why it sounds strange to me. I suppose he takes part in the “planning” though. Just seems like if the front office thinks it’s more effective to take control of the lineups and pitching decisions, why wouldn’t they just have the same controls in place during the regular season? Especially with a numbskull like Dusty costing us games all year.
It's crazy that everyone wanted another License to Ill and they dropped that and pretty much nobody knew what to think about it for a couple of years.
