Damn that looks rough. It's a good indication that we'll be seeing alot of Jabari Smith at the 5 this season. Alot of Jeff Green, and Tate at the 5 too I assume.

I'd like to see us sign Taj Gibson honestly. Another steady hand in the locker room, and can still rebound at least even at his age.

Really sucks… if it’s not broken then seems like it will be a few months.

However there are plenty of centers on the open market to fill the gap.

Biyombo should be signed. He's still a UFA. Uncle Jeff can't go up against big centers. Neither can Tate.

At minimum I'd plug in pretty much any of those guys - except Wood, because he's the only one that doesn't give you a stable 'know what you're gonna get' rebounder and interior pylon.

You all know I like Wood but I would go with Bismack. Sengun is offensive, we need a defensive presence or trade for Myles Turner.

Sengun grew to 7 feet. We're in good hands.

    Jock is tough.

Get him in a moon boot and he'll be right in 3 weeks. 6 weeks for a more serious sprain still means he is back in action for training camp.

Salary of $8M is guaranteed for 2023 - 2024. For each of the next three years going forward, team has an option to waive him on 6/29 (last day of each season) with no guarantee for the next season. I think he'll be a nice piece though, a guy who has shown he can at least not be a liability in the playoffs, on a flat year-to-year contract is about all you can hope for as a backup center, outside of picking up a veteran buy-out midseason.

If Landale is deemed to be out for the entire year, the Rockets can apply for a Disabled Player Exception, which is equal to 50% of Landale's salary, $4M. It can be used to either sign or trade for a single player making up to that value (cannot be split). It also must be used on a player whose contract is expiring; you can't use it to acquire any long-term asset, or take a flyer on a rookie reclamation project. As with many transactional loopholes that have been closed over the years, this actually stems from Lyin' Daryl Morey, who applied for a DPE for Yao back in 2009 and then signed Trevor Ariza to a full MLE deal using the exception. Note that the designation of being out for the whole year is made by an independent medical professional, the Rockets can't just hold Landale out the whole year and apply for the exception.

Insurance on NBA contracts is only required for the top 5 salaries on each team (Landale is 8th highest); if he were insured, the Rockets would receive a payout of 80% of his salary for each missed game after the 41st consecutive missed game. This does not give them extra salary cap room, the savings just go back into the owner's pocket.

He doesn't have much left physically, but I wouldn't mind getting Blake Griffin on a vet min deal on the understanding he'll just play until Jock heals up. Maybe a handshake agreement to waive him if he can find playing time on another team after that. He seems like a good veteran to have on the bench/in the locker room.
