Maybe - he didn’t last year but there is only one way to find out and if he keeps performing well in the 5-6th innings, he will likely get a crack at a later inning. If he pitches well, that will go a long way -
They have a flawed - but good team and can be very good when their pitching cooperates. It will be a battle and may the better team win. Montgomery and Scherzer are very solid additions and can start playoff games - but they also gave up a lot for them.
I feel like the worm has turned on the Maldy thing. 790 changed their tune this morning. Diaz continues to deliver when he gets the opportunity.
Diaz would likely hit 35-40 homers this year had he started every game - also he has a slugging % well above .500 - and that is as a rookie catcher. Honestly, there is literally nothing else reasonably possible Diaz can do to get starts as the catcher- he has exceeded any expectations. Baker will say Diaz doesn’t walk (he doesn’t) and he doesn’t hit lefties (small sample size) - but he is a 23 year old rookie catcher handling the WS champion pitching staff.
Yeah, Javier needs to be the one who goes to the pen. Not brown or France. I get the innings limit but Javier looks toast
For what so he can give up 12 runs and ruin king Tuck's night again? Am I doing the negativity thing correctly
So, what kind of contract ya'll think Tucker is going to command? Of all the guys we've let walk thusfar, Tucker is by far (save for maybe Cole--but he's not an everyday player) the best we've had. I'd give him a $300 million contract without blinking an eye right now. 10 years would be a tough sell though, those almost never work out. Something along the lines of 7-8/300. He's the team MVP and it's not close.
Its mid August. We are far from a guarantee. They better start playing better or they will not make it.
Astros have SIX starters with the addition of JV and Urquidy's return. They should skip Javier for two turns then alternate skips among Brown, France, and Framber in September. Javier is not a workhorse and is gassed from last season (plus postseason), WBC, and this season. He needs to sit down for two weeks and not throw 100 pitches in anymore starts . Let the other guys alternate rest after he returns, play Diaz at catcher more (which allows more relief for the overused relievers), and the staff should be ready for the playoffs.
Hope he ain't just saying **** He'll prob sit tomorrow and get 2 consecutive days rest with the off day Thursday.
I know it’s already been damn near a full season, but man it’s still weird seeing Yuli in a fish jersey.
I am actually encouraged. A win is a win and this team feels resilient. It's not perfect. Javier and to some extent Framber are not 100% right but the bullpen is really starting to come around and be the dominant force it was last year. It feels like a different 3-4 of the starting 9 can be counted on to produce in any given game and occassionally they really hit on all cylinders. Offensively this team feels more like 2017 than 2019, but with deeper pitching. I'm also very encouraged that Brantley may be able to be very good for 4-6 weeks and provide a spark in September through the post season. If he could play 1B that would be perfect. Things may be looking up even if it may be too late to catch the Rangers. ( baseball gods, you can show me the folly of uttering such a foolish statement by having the Rangers lose 7 in a row and start spiraling out of contention now)
