Stop it, man. Morey was lying till the last moment to Chris. The issue is lying here, it’s not wether it was Morey’s idea. He was working on the deal and lying to Chris.
Yes. This. Furthermore, James is not even saying he wants out of Philly NOW. Listen carefully what he says. "I will not play for an organization that Morey is a part of" I.e. “Get that ****** fired and I’ll play". He’s gunning for Morey’s head, IMO. If Joel backs him up, it’s over for deMornay.
this would have made sense two or three seasons ago. Now they don’t have the time. It’s clear Embiid’s timeline is not the Sixers. He only has so many seasons left on his body (Yao Ming comes to mind) and wants to get a ring before it’s all gone. I figure Embiid has three years of prime play left. That is why I think he demands a trade at midseason, unless somehow the Sixers turn this whole thing around and land Siakam and a few key role players a la Bucks 2021.
imo... i think DM is a somewhat pompous dude that believes he is the smartest guy in the room - and has to be sure everyone else knows it... and he has a certain lack of empathy and people skills... most of which i equate to growing up a nerd and having those insecurities... but Hard-on is the narcissist... Morey is the enabler.... 'those that matter don't mind - and those that mind don't matter'
FWIW, having met DM in person a few times (he's a friend of a friend), I can tell you that he doesn't come off as pompous or smug at all. He's actually pretty charming and funny.
Not sure @kjayp meant "pompous" in like, social situations… Fact is Morey focused way too much on building his personal brand. None of the other new-gen GMs with non-basketball background have such huge media persona. (Of course you have your Pat Riley, but that’s different he’s a basketball institution.) I took "pompous", as having this grandiose media presence as some kind of a transformational figure, who changed the game through math. Of course it was all BS and fake science, which I find mightily irritating… Just do your job and try to hustle-up a good roster, like all the other GMs out there, it’s not about you, it’s about the game, the product, the team, the city.
This is a example of the mess that Morey left us with, in which Stone inherited. Stone was left with the Harden/Morey stinch and turned the ship around in 3 years. If anyone's a joke it's Daryl Morey
I mean he wasnt working and you arent a player and anything relevant to his work why woul dhe treat you that way?
I met Morey once. He actually came up to me in the stands and thanked me for my vocal support of our team during their summer league game. I thought it was a helluva nice thing - and i've always thought highly of him, despite his faults... perhaps 'hubris' would have been a better term than pompous...? He seems like a nice guy - but he does come off as 'pompous' or even arrogant in some of his comments and actions... signing Melo = Bzdelik imposion... "coaching doesnt matter that much" 'causing a stir' w China... things like the Nene contract... enabling Harden... I got a good deal of respect for Morey bc he does have a lot on the ball - and he seems like he'd be a cool guy to hang out with... but the dude has some blindpots that you could drive a truck through... lol
Man Harden knows what he's doing Calling Morey in China after the Hong Kong saga Chinese government was always going to promote that & him afterwards Dude is chasing the money he was/is going to lose
