http://www.cbc.ca/story/sports/national/2004/08/11/Sports/carter040811.html CBC SPORTS ONLINE - Could Quincy Carter soon be quarterbacking the Edmonton Eskimos? Anything is possible in the CFL. According to the Dallas Cowboys website, Edmonton put the recently-released Cowboys pivot on its negotiation list Wednesday. Carter, 26, was jettisoned by the Cowboys last week for undisclosed reasons, rumoured to be a failed drug test. He had been Dallas' opening-day quarterback in each of his three NFL seasons and was slated to start again this year. Carter completed 292 of 505 pass attempts (57.8%) for 3,302 yards and 17 touchdowns with 21 interceptions in 16 starts as the Cowboys reached the post-season. The Georgia product also scrambled 68 times for 257 yards and two TDs. Carter is a career 56.2 per cent passer, having completed 507 of 902 passes for 5,839 yards and 29 TDs with 36 INTs in 31 starts since Dallas drafted him in the second round – 53rd overall – in 2001.
I think he'd be quite successful there, but Q will always be a tease. Just like in high school. Just like in college and just like in the NFL. He shows you tantalizing glimpses of a great player and that is all he shows you.
Q has the most wins in his QB class. The only reason people think he is so bad is because the media has been on his back since he was drafted. Its ridiculous. I'm not defending his play or the reason he was cut, but the guy isn't as bad as he has been made out to be. The media does this. They predict a guy is gonna be bad so they exaggerate all his mistakes.
The only reason people think he is so bad is because he couldn't throw a consistent spiral and made mind-numbingly stupid mistakes.
Quincy Carter, Freshman year at Georgia - outstanding Quincy Carter, Sophomore year at Georgia - disappointing Quincy Carter, Junior year at Georgia - terrible Only college player I have ever seen regress as he got older.
Haha - you aren't talking about Simms, are you? You do know that the Cat can post in this forum again? I don't know if the Hangout can handle a flurry of his posts talking about Simms.
Simms did not regress as a player at the 40 Acres. He just didn't improve much on many of the problems that plagued him as a freshman. He still had issues with reading defenses, looking off receivers, and having passes batted down. You can't honestly tell me that the Chris Simms that threw for 419 yards and 2 TDs at Nebraska in 2002, is the same guy that kept getting picks returned for TDs in 2000.
Do you really believe that? Do you really believe the media was fair to Carter during his days in Dallas? Did you know he had the most wins out of his QB class. I know I was surprised to hear that. I see this from the sports media all the time. They predict a guy is going to be great or a bust and they report on the guy accordingly. Carter is a young QB who had three different coordinators in his three seasons. He was never was accepted by the fans or the media, and he still has the most wins out of the QB's in his class. And if you really think he was the worst starter in the league last year, I could find a few QB's who were worse than him.
29 TDs with 36 INTs in 31 starts Those aren't good numbers. Dude needs to use his head out there instead of throwing into double coverage.
I never said he was good. I said he wasn't the worst starter in the league and he was treated fairly by the media.
Neither is 18 TDs with 28 INTs in 27 starts, but that guy's firmly ensconsed as the starter on his team. I think Quincy did show some flashes and he did also make some dumb mistakes. But he didn't do too poorly in his first full year as starter. For example, he had a better completion percentage, threw for more yards and more TDs and had essentially the same YPA as Steve McNair did in his first full year as the starter. This was really the key year for Quincy in seeing what kind of quarterback he could become.
