The same thing has been increasingly happening here… creating a protected class that is above the rules for everyone else.

The hypocrisy of these folks is astounding. Buried under so many layers, within layers, within layers you can't even unwrap it. And would it even help if you were somehow able to do so?

The main philosophy of the religion is "love one another" and far too many establishments are on a weekly sermon that includes hateful exclusion, spite and fear. The book says forgiveness and they turned that into crazed depths of judgment. It's mind boggling.

    Tax the church.

Just checking in to say I read this as ... Ultra Orthodox groups ... pushing more things like having sex in public and, of course, the greater use of Rabbinical Courts.

religion is a virus - no matter what the original intention, as it spreads it is mutated into all sorts of fervent forms.

Humans are weak and easily manipulated which is how religion starts in the first place.

It is all based on common mythologies of other religions.

I understand your broader point, but so much of that meme is blatantly false, starting with Jesus’ birthday. The Bible doesn’t claim a date of his birth at all. Different Christians choose different dates to celebrate his birth.

It also gets a ton wrong about the other deities. There are all kinds of reasons to doubt without making up details and masquerading them as fact as was done in this meme.

I agree with you and I am a non-believer. The movie Zeitgeist and the book _TheChrist Conspiracy: The Greatest Story Ever Sold_ laid out some very poorly argued Christ as a Myth assertions, which as you noted are very easily debunked.

    BUT

There are some exceptionally strong arguments that much of the Jesus Christ in the Bible is myth. We will save that for another day.

There’s a time in my life I would have relished having that discussion/argument. No longer. I don’t care. My faith isn’t about winning an argument, and frankly if it doesn’t look like radical love for humanity then it isn’t a faith worth me holding on to anyway.

This is not true. Check out Dan McClellens take on this. He's a biblical scholar with multiple degrees in early languages and cultures. He is a left-leaning if not left wing Christian who studies the culture and historical context surrounding the writers of the ancient texts. His conclusions include things like the Bible is in no way inerrant, there is no univocality, Hell is not biblical and end times prophesy is not biblical, and the Bible does not condemn consensual same sex relationships as we know them today.
