The money is for the owner to figure out but it would be good if his minutes on the team stay limited. I would rather him listen to some of the folks of the old Detroit teams.
My point is that Eason having potential to becoming a great defender doesn't mean the Rockets made a mistake by trying to sign one of the best perimeter defenders in the game. So if your belief is that Eason can reach incredible heights as a defender, then bringing in someone who is already one of the best right now makes a lot of sense.
I love Tari, but I'm not as high on him as some of you maybe on here. I see him making multiple all-defense teams but definitely not an all-star, and if we are lucky... a better version of Marcus Smart, I think he's a much better shooter. Which to me is a pretty damn good player and a key role needed for a contender.
Imagine having Amen, Brooks, Tari, Bari on the court at the same time...I promise you Alpi would actually look like a great defender next to them because he could just "clean up" if anyone even makes it that far. Very different from being hung out to dry by the guards all the time!
He is our Shane Battier......defensive stalwart 3pt shooter with better rebounding but never a main cog, super role player. DD
I totally agree signing Brooks makes sense. Signing Brooks for 4 years and 80 million dollars when there was no competition at that level for him does NOT make sense. In a salary cap environment, that context is necessary.
If you want context, then you need to establish that if we don't overpay him, then we have to let another young player go AND sign yet another player to some inflated number to meet the cap minimums. The problem we were trying to solve this summer is we had too many young guys we like that we couldn't possibly meet the cap minimum without a.) overpaying for vets AND B.) without telling some of our young players to go away. The solution was to overpay for a handful of guys to keep the number of players we add to a minimum so we had enough playing time and roster spots for the young guys we covet most. While Brooks' contract looks ugly today, as the cap increases from the Kevin Durant rule(cap smoothing in the new CBA), it will look less egregious in a few years and especially so if Ime can establish a pecking order that prevents Brooks from thinking we need him to create at times(we don't unlike Memphis who are short on ball creators - that drove a lot of his poor efficiency offensive metrics). I will say I can completely agree that Stone probably should have been able to secure a more team friendly deal if nothing else(maybe 4th year team option). I'm guessing Brooks' agent knew he had Stone over a barrel because if Brooks walked, who else was Stone going to offer that money to? At least the Brooks deal has a potential to be tradable in the back half of the deal.
I like him too but I also see him as a high end role player at best. Even today - he is at his best when he is playing off instinct and roaming defensively but that means in order for him to do that, he has to have everyone else locked in to pick up his man because he gambles a lot and leaves the defense in a big disadvantage at times against better competition. Additionally, he seemed to really struggle just knowing where to be offensively within Silas' system(which was trash to be fair). In short, Tari is ALL instinct(and damn good at it) but he has to mix that in with more discipline on both sides of the ball so he doesn't become a predictable target. I think he can get there by the way - but I think it is going to take him a little longer which is why I think he will be more of a solid rotational player/starter than a true all star.
It is too early to tell what he is but yeah, he has to develop a lot of game as well. His Offense is still pretty raw and he can still drop 16 or 20 points in a game shows his potential on that side.
I do not think it made that much sense without Brook Lopez. Having Lopez who could do everything offensively and defensively would make Brooks just the enforcer that he is as an And 1. Would not have to key on his wild card antics.
No, no, no lol As much as I hate his flopping, Marcus Smart is one of the most intelligent, high IQ, and crafty defensive players in the league. I don’t think Tari will ever get to that level.
my skepticism about prophets and prophecy is now absolute disbelief. hustle, hunger, work ethic are high in Tari, he is seriously testing my desire not to fall in love with the assets. don't see the ceilings being placed on him.
Tari makes Jabari better Their chemistry is natural perhaps due to being drafted together and their natural inclination to defense first Not everyone in the core 6 will become a superstar but someone, maybe Tari, will be a super role player And that’s Ok Every championship team need players that does the dirty work, not have plays run for them, and impact winning that’s not quantifiable in the stat sheet No need to sign a free agent to fill that role Tari is that guy
