    I vividly remember Doug Jones saving ~40 games despite not being able to break glass with the ball.

    Dude spent his entire career looking like a long-haul truck driver, throwing wicked slop, and was a top-3 Cy Young Award guy two or three times.

    IIRC he might have won some gold gloves for his fielding. Surprisingly light on his feet for a fat dude.

    I brought this up a few times last year when Verlander and Kershaw were pulled even though they were throwing no hitters and looked strong. Pitchers like Nolan Ryan, Jack Morris and Randy Johnson wouldn’t have left the game if they were throwing like that.
