While I agree Pena could (unlikely) be traded in a deal for an Ace, I don't think there is any way they would do so without another SS being in the deal, or having another deal lined up for one. I just can't see Dana Brown saying i'm fine with Dubon as my playoff SS, and i'm good with Kessinger as my backup infielder. And as much as 90% on here hate to hear it, Pena has been very good in the 2 hole again, if dusty will just leave him there
I doubt it is is Tommy John surgery. Sounded more similar to the current McCullers issue. Eovaldi has already had 2 TJ surgeries....
Will just have to agree to disagree I guess. The only time Verlander was really "flipping a coin" as per his performance was last year, and again he had been ridden hard
I don't expect the Astros to land a starter. I hope they do but the prices for a rental are basically Gilbert plus another prospect. No thanks. A big reason I thought they wouldn't get a starter was Meyers going into a big slump before the All-Star break. I thought he was going to be key for the Astros to land a quality starter. I'm glad to hear that they are holding him and Julks out but I have my doubts on it being for a starter. My guess is a reliever with some team control beyond this season or maybe a bat. You improve the team where you can without gutting your farm. The bullpen would be the way to do it. Replacing Stanek/Montero with a guy that you actually want pitching in the playoffs is a significant improvement.
Reading too much into daily lineups is a bit of a fool's errand, but if I were to try to read anything into it, it would suggest Meyers is the one potentially being traded. If Meyers is gone, Dubon becomes the backup CF and might need some reps here and there so why not get them there now and see how it goes, I guess. If Julks is gone, Dubon should never be in CF regardless so no reason to play him there today.
If he said that publicly then its because Crane told him that is what he wants. This is really the only criteria to judge Dana by. Did he accomplish what Crane asked of him? I am sure it is not lost on Dana what happened to the last guy who didn't.
I think you give up whatever you need to make a run at the ring for a year or Two This run has been amazing but it will come to an end. Eventually tucker will move on and eventually all these loses will catch up. So rather then give up a shot right now for a potential future shot that may never develop, I say let's go all in and get a starting 1 or 2. The line up is good to go if it stays healthy (and that's with not accounting for uncle mike) Graveman can potentially bring the bullpen up to being one of the best bullpens but I don't think you can rely on javier as number 2 or rookies as 3 or 4. Move javier to 3, one of the rookies to 4 and its a whole new look
I have to believe Dana is a savvy negotiator with his years of experience. He's got his offers in place and is waiting for something to break his way. We'll see what kind of poker player he is. Patience compadres.
eh...i agree with him to an extent. i think rules are different when ur in the Astros current tier vs the rest of the league. The peak window to get another ring is clearly the remainder of the current Tucker contract. I'd maximize chances to win another these next few years. And trading top prospects - especially outfield prospects - doesn't mean the future is automatically mortgaged 2026 and beyond anyway.
Has he ever been in charge of trades before? Other teams aren't sitting on their offers though either. It's not like Detroit (or whomever) has said "here's what we'll do, come back when you're ready". Detroit will also keep seeking out better offers for their players too. An offer is only on the table until the other team gets a better one.
