Well that's not something you want to hear. So he probably got told it won't be that way here...meaning he's going to be the third option? Or better?

I have more faith in Ime Udoka and our young talent than to believe that, tbh.

Yeah if you just listen to ANY interview where someone speaks about Ime Udoka, you immediately get the idea there's not going to be a situation where someone doesn't do what he wants and they get to stay on the floor. Certainly not a stubborn role player.

I'm not worried that we'll see a repeat of the Grizzlies issues. Udoka has an elite ability to get players to buy into what the team needs (albeit in a small sample). I just wonder how much the shot selection/frequency will be improved. If he cuts down heavily on mid range shots and above the break 3's, I think we can see his FG% and 3P% go up to near league average levels. He's excellent from the left corner (38%) and excellent on catch and shoot (38%).

And yet he joins the Rockets where he will be the option behind FVV, Green, Sengun, and Bari?!

i'm guessing he expects to be the #2 guy behind fvv, i don't think he would have come here if he expected to be a 4th option. The whole situation is going to be a disaster, the only question is how much will the asset cost be to dump him in 2 years, will it be 1 pick? 2 picks? or a stretch situation

Who cares, he can request a trade after 1 or 2 years if he is not content.

Nobody really cares about a 28 year old dude.

    The green light as follows.

Green - FVV - Alpe or Jabari - Alpe or Jabari - Last Brooks.

Green - Alpe - Jabari - FVV - Brooks works for me as well.

I do think he can boss players like Green, Alpe around.......in his first year.......

I hope the younger players see through that he is only an average player who is just older.

This delusional scrub jacked up shots next to Ja, Bane and JJJ. No doubt he will let them fly early in the season now that he’s paid like head honcho. It’s up to the coaching staff to put him in his scrub place.

I'm sure he hears that list of players and sees himself as the second option behind FVV.

I hope you are right. But I'm not as optimistic as you. Pretty sure Memphis tried to convince him not to delude himself about his offensive ability and failed. What makes us think Udoka can do what the Grizzlies coaching staff couldn't do in years? People are putting too much faith in Udoka IMO. We'll see.

This is why I never bought any of the talk of Brooks having interest in offers from anyone else this offseason. Particularly any talk about mutual interest with him and some contending teams that were rumored.

I think, like he said, he wants a bigger role and that he viewed our team as the 1 spot where that has the best chance for that to happen. It wasn’t happening on the Lakers.

You don't think he would come here just for $86m over 4 years?

Also, you think FVV is going to take the most shots on the team? That's not happening on Udoka's team if you ask me.

Brooks is going to have to compete for his shots like everyone else and he's going to find out he's the 5th best offensive player in the starting lineup. These guys were brought in to be elite role players for the core of Sengun/Green/Jabari. The team flat out turned down Harden and mentioned several times they are bringing in complementary pieces this summer.

It's so clear to me that in FVV, Brooks, Landale and Green we've chosen players that are guaranteed to be good complementary role players. That we had to overpay them is because we suck, it's not because they were brought in to lead the scoring.

This is all logical, I just hope someone told Brooks that…

    4 reasons:

    1) Change of scenery in general can generate some results. He grew up with that Grizzlies team and was comfortable taking those shots.

    2) Defensive players sometimes go through this phase of not giving up on the dream of being a scorer. Some get out of it.

    3) If I had to rate NBA coaches by how much they stress on players earning shots, selecting good shots and earning minutes - I would estimate Udoka is easily in the top 5. His Spurs experience is ultra valuable as well, that's the type of culture that could make a change to Brooks. I agree too much is expected of Udoka, but it's all based on one thing only which is culture. If there's one thing I'm 100% sure about from Udoka's one season of coaching, it's that he will privately and/or publicly f*ck you up for not being a team player.

    4) Traumatic experiences change people too (relative to the situation). Brooks was humiliated at the end of last season. Sometimes that sparks a change in a person. You have heard him talk about improving his offensive game being a priority so he's definitely conscious of it.

The more you pay someone, the less leverage you have over them.

The Grizzlies were trying to dump Brooks but couldn't even before he got a laughably ridiculous contract, the Rockets are stuck with him for at least 3 seasons no matter what happens.

You can only talk so tough with a guy paid that much that you can't get rid of, your options are to create a locker room problem or create a John Wall situation.

Either Brooks magically changes his mind about what caliber of a player he is, or we'll just have to deal with the fact that he's going to take 15+ shots a game.

I doubt these negotiations happened without this being discussed given that it's Udoka who pushed for it. Udoka essentially got Brooks PAID. He's going to be a better soldier here than he was with the Grizzlies. I don't know by how much, but I'm sure Udoka doesn't plan to field the worst offensive impact player in the NBA.

From the outside it does seem that Udoka is controlling the scene.......we do not see the pressure behind it.

He has at least to make the Playoffs once or twice and have 2 out of 3 winning seasons.

At least to show the media and everyone he still got it.
