I have a HP DeskJet 5150 and it is connected to my computer through a USB cable. I have downloaded the software and drivers for it through hp.com and was ready to install but have ran into a problem. Once I begin installing the software, the installation gets to the point where it tells me to connect my printer to the computer now. I connect it to the computer and my computer recognizes it and says new device found but the software/program doesn't recognize it and won't finish the installation. Why is this?
I have a similar problem with my hp officejet 4110 running windows XP. A way that I got it to work for a while was to "add a printer" thru the control panel, printers and faxes. I was able to set up the driver that way, after not being able to access files needed that should have been included with the printer's software. I even discussed the matter with the tech experts at hp, but they were all stumped.
I had a similar experience w/ my epson printer. They said not to go through the "windows has detected new hardware, would you like to install it now" process, but instead load through the CD they provided. Well that thing didn't work AT ALL. So I called tech support up and they said, "Oh, well it's a windows problem on your computer. An executable file is corrupt" or something like that. So I said screw this. Opened up control panel, clicked on "add printer" and it was easy as cake. Dumbass printer people trying to forcefeed their crap on you.
