Never go backward is a rule that will keep you from making mistakes. I have seen it blow up in peoples faces 100 times. We let JV walk for a reason. We let Raley walk for a reason. Never go backward. We already have too many DH's, and there is no room for those we have now. If Brantley really is on the way back it is even worse. No more DH's. At this point I would rather have France and his future than JV and a year and a half of his. Never go backward.
If Brown traded Chas for prospects right now i'm pretty sure Crane would fire him Crane is trying to win it all again this year
No way current MLB player(s) are traded for prospects. This team simply does not have enough depth for that.
Stroman was just as good the last two years as he is this year, and also in 2019. Dude is good. His contract is a bit dangerous though with the player option
Yea snake brings a lot to the board, contributes a ton with the prospect stuff But for a while he has been posting about trading current contributors for prospects, and as fun as that might sound for a prospect guy, Crane isn't allowing that to happen right now while we are trying to win I mean if a guy like Meyers, who isn't really contributing much, were moved for prospects after we acquired a better OF for right now, something like that wouldn't surprise me, but we ain't trading Chas for prospects
Former NHL player and current General manager of the New York Rangers. But joking aside, he's now on the we need Brandon Drury train.
Don't forget that he was also a Little League World Series champion! He may just be exactly what the Astros need right now.
Think about it. A bench guy. 3B, 2B, SS, 1B, LF and RF. Hr can DH and PH. Has power and versatility. This guy can cover everything we need from a Bench guy. Batting .277avg 14HRs He isn't bad against LHP or RHP above .250 avg. We won't need Kessinger or Meyers or Madris or Hensley with Dubon and Drury on the bench.
I MAYBE don't but probably still do have an issue with it, if it was for a near can't miss top 100 prospect that fills a weakness, but any positive WAR MLB player with 4 more years of control is worth way more than prospects. This team has too many holes to use a bullet like that. Contending teams don't trade MLB players for prospects they trade prospects for MLB players. When was the last time tye Astros traded an MLB guy for prospects?
Drury also has a 27.00 ERA in 2/3 innings under his belt. If we ever need to replace Montero, we have a spare.
As in whatever they can get - but last I heard pitchers were specifically listed. I do know that when I was told about consolidating solid/good players for star players (something Brown wants to do) like a month ago - a top of the rotation pitcher and another star bat were #1-2 on the list and I don’t think that just pertains to 2023 but the next few years. Some of it becomes reading the tea leaves - but if they have an opportunity to more solid quantity for an overall upgrade at another spot, they will. That is why it makes sense that Gilbert’s name has surfaced and why someone like Melton or Barber likely could be dealt if a team values them enough…. If the Astros end up trading for an outfielder, they are set at those positions for several years. Likewise, the rotation is set for a few years if someone like Cease or Verlander are brought aboard - and a younger pitcher can be shipped out. There is a lot of internal confidence that the Astros scouts and GM can identify the right players - that the player development people can do their jobs…. So they believe they can fill holes and develop depth. Right now Zach DeZenzo and Melton are a couple guys they are high on… and they believe Colton Gordon and Spencer Arrighetti can contribute as 3/4 type starters…
I found out about Luis Baez a highly thought of OF and now see Dezenzo and Melton n Gordon. I knew about Arighetti some already. Add Leon, Gilbert and Ronel Blanco and if they stay healthy and progress w may have something cooking down on the farm(s). Great site is great for finding out about the Stros!
I no longer doubt the Astros ability to cheaply develop 3 and 4 type starters. They might want to consider a 5/125 offer to Framber (which would be 3/85 likely in FA years since he has arb 3 and arb 4 left) because aces are in high demand. Maybe he wouldn’t want to do that but pitchers get arm injuries so if I was advising him I’d probably tell him to do that. A lot can happen over the next 500 innings for him.
