The Funny thing about Toronto is that they have to overpay players to stay.
Most of their talent has come through the draft versus in Houston players take less to come here because of the city, the system and the players. Good luck in the draft and in taking good players and paying them superstar dollars.

He casually assumes the opinion of Rocket Guy is shared by Houston at large, while neglecting to specify who he means by "Houston" - the management, the players, the fans, the media...who?

Exactly how many WINS should we assume this nebulous "presence of greatness and honor" will yield by the end of the season? Tell me that and I'll tell you how willing I am to part with it.

What "Houston" is accustomed to, you hack, is being in the playoffs. We'll be there again soon, with or without Dream.

Which reminds me, the "Dream" metaphor needs a rest. It's turning into another tired old w**** for lazy journalists, in the rich tradition of, "Houston, we have a problem".

A couple of points....

1st---- I am not desperate for writers, Sniper is an outstanding writer, and has consistently added great content to the site from a true Raptor fan point of view. If you disagree...thats great, but don't deminish him... because you don't agree with him.

2nd---- Please tell me where on the site it says Houston has agreed to terms with Olajuwon on the main page, or any other page of the site. The Main page today says "Houston has not given up on The Dream", and chronicles where talks with him are at.

Lastly---- The RocketGuy has a whopper of a response, that is sure to mirror many of the comments you guys have made. It will go up tomorrow.

I never once dissed the Rockets except for the odd dig at Cato and look at you guys taking pathetic shots at the Raptors. Ahh boo hoo, the Raptors suck, boo hoo, the Raptors overpay people, boo hoo the east sucks. Well guess what? We'll probably go far in the playoffs while you watch from early 1st round exit or 9th-10th place. Cry about all you want but that is the truth. Everyone who's insulting the Raptors knows I'm right. NYKRule, you're a complete joke. Raptor fans never made excuses 2 years ago when half our team staged a mutiny against our coach(Butch Carter) during the Knicks series. We beat you fair and square. Get over it. You lost because your team is built for mediocrity. You are NOT better than the Raptors. You won't be for years to come. Signing Weatherspoon and Houston just further compounds the situation. You have Sprewell, Camby and Houston who have all maxed out their potential and a bunch of undersized forwards with very little game at all, not to mention a couple of PGs who have no game left. Your team will not win anything for the next decade because they are so capped out. Any knowledgable Knick fans knows your team is a bullett train headed towards mediocrityville at 300mph. You sound like such a little girl when you make excuses.

Where does Sniper attack Houston? Please show me where he insults Houstonians(right?) or the Rockets. Show me and I'll apologize. If you can't show me anything, then shut up and eat your crow. And don't bring up that hicktown statement. That's pretty inappriate but it's not a dig at you guys. It's just saying that as far as sports markets go, Houston is not as big as Toronto. That's a fact.

Check the July 18th article. That WAS on the rumors page of your site. That update is about as fake as it gets. It WAS there. It seems someone has removed it from the archives. >:\

Here's a quote from the article:

This was on your rumor page. I guess when TRG found out his little daydream was incorrect, he removed it or got someone to remove it. That WAS there on the rumors page.

Ok, the Raptors have promising youth at every position as well as a good mix of veterans. How are we not building for the future. We want Dream to help tutor our C's of the future.

How do I have no credibility for reporting something I heard? I never claimed to have started this rumor. Fox Sports did I was reporting it third-hand. Ok, once again I'll tentatively tiptoe through the quagmire that is team loyalty inspired social prejudice....both ways...

I am really, really getting tired of people from either country throwing out statements like " Toronto sucks!" or "Houston is a hick town!", and this annoying habit is compounded by the fact that most of the people making these sophmoric statements have no direct knowledge about the cities they are discussing...ESPN is full of this stuff, but I had thought that this site was above this kind of crap...

I realize that some of what the Toronto writer said about Houston may be ill-advised, but to respond with blanket statements about the city of Toronto is equally so, if not worse, as it both assumes that one writer's opinion represents an entire city's, and it's also compounding a problem already in evidence...

Not to get TOO off-base here, but the historian Herotodus said that the worst trait human's possess is the myopic quest for retribution, which in and of itself begets constant conflict..ie, party A does something to party B, whereupon party B enacts revenge for the first thing, whereupon party B seeks retribution, whereupon party A...and so on, and so on...

I realize that this is a bit above and beyond the scope of fan based city bashing, but I feel the pattern and the motivation is the same...Toronto fan/writer says something about Houston, Houston fan/writer says something about Toronto, etc. etc..and the fact that the discussion has less and less to do with basketball, and is less and less informed gets lost amid the haze of civic defensive zeal...All in all, it makes for uninteresting conversation, and just promotes mutual ignorance...

I am hoping to pre-empt this Houston/Toronto fracas, as it hasn't gotten to far yet, and return the level of discussion I so enjoy in this site to the intelligent, polite level it customarily exemplifies...

So, on that note, I would just like to say to Houston fans, and to Toronto fans, when you feel that your city has been slighted, and you want to respond by slamming theother city, maybe it should occur to you that the person who made the comment that offended you may very well have been responding to one which offended them...and so on...

For the record, while I have been to Texas, I have never been to Houston, and therefor will refrain from any comment, aside from the fact that I have been a Rockets fan since the days of Rodney, Ralph, et al...But even were I to go to Houston, and not like it in comparison with Toronto, that would be insufficient basis for a comment like " I've been to Houston, it sucks!", as I would only be revealing my own bias...people tend to agree with their own biases, and such biases are usually based on what they are used to...Maybe it's because i study history, but I try to find differences in other cultures to enjoy and celebrate, rather than immediately identify anything foreign as wrong or distastefull...

I know that I've probably gone on way too long about this, but I've been reading these kind of debates for months, on ESPN, etc...and I felt let down when I saw one start up here..It is, however, a measure of my repsect for this site and it's fans that I bothered to write this...er..essay...because I wouldn't have bothered elsewhere..(You're probably wishing by now that I hadn't). Here, at least, I feel that it might strike a chord with some of you...

Re: Some of the Toronto facts...It is factual that Toronto's GMA is something like 4th or 5th highest in North America (population)..it is also true that the United Nations annual city living study, which incorporates factors like economic standing, crime rate, entertainment and social options, sanitation, cosmopolitanism, cultural istitutions and events, etc..has chosen Toronto as the world's best city to live in 3 straight years... Also, about the weather, while it is true that our winters get pretty damn cold for my taste, they are in fact mild when compared to many American cities, as Toronto is south of about 1/3 of the U.S...it's actually about the same latitude as northern California...I am NOT saying this to say that Toronto is therefore better than Houston, I am just providing facts for your benefit..As stated, i have no opinion whatsoever regarding which city is better.But any facts that I can contribute to keep the level of discussion above the " Toronto/Houston sucks!" type might help...I would be happy to know anything about Houston which would likewise inform me on a subject about which I am pretty ignorant..

For those of you brave souls who have bothered to read this far, thanks for your patience...

The fact that you contribute "objective facts" (which aren't always more valid than opinion) only for the side of Toronto sort of weakens your position as a fair arbitrator of this discussion. Seems to be a more elegant way of saying "Toronto rules! Houston wasn't #1 in that survey! nya nya nya!" While I agree that it's less childish, it still isn't as meritorious as your post was when you were quoting a Greek .

Flutie: NIKEstrad is one of the more knowledgeable posters on this board. Attacking him only hurts your credibility.

I diminish him b/c he doesn't know his facts, not b/c I disagree with him. He throws garbage like this...

If I'm writing an article that many people will see, I'll at least do a little research and see that Dream averaged, get this, 26 minutes a game, a whole 1 minute more than he says us southerners need to realize that he can only play. 26 minutes is pretty far from 40 minutes. What kind of writer doesn't check up on something like that?

Facts are facts, and The Sniper clearly needs to look them up before he assumes we're playing Dream for 40 minutes a game.

That was not my intent at all.. I tried to communicate that I was contributing thse facts, as opposed to my opinion, as they are the ones available to me...I did state, and will reiterate, that the facts weren't meant in a comparitive way, just an iformative one, and I also made it apparent that I was sure that there were facst about Houston which I would find equally interesting...As an example of my intent, the fact about Toronto's weather doesn't relate to Houston, and certainly not in a " Toronto is better, Ny Nya! " way....I would ask you, please, to re-read my post, and approach my 'facts' for what they were meant to be..I was assuming that Houston fans know as little about Toronto as I do Houston, and was contributing a what I hoped would be intersting/unknown information...I would never try to couch a "Toronto is better" argument with facts, as any argument needs comparitive information...For example, were I to say to you, I'm 6'1" (fairly tall), does it follow that I am assuming that I am taller than you? That would be assinine, and the kind of reasoning about which I was voicing my annoyance..

I hope I have clarified my position. Please believe that I don't have a single negative thought about the city of Houston, nor do I in any way think I possess anything close to the kind of knowledge upon which i could base a comparitive conclusion...

What does the Rocketguy and what's put on his site have to do with ClutchCity.net and the posters on this board. Apparently the Rocketguy speaks for all Rocket fans now. By the same reasoning can I assume that all Raptor fans are as well informed as this Sniper fellow? By the way, the hick reference and saying no other city comes close to Toronto in business is offensive as well as ignorant. I'm not trying to knock Toronto, I've never been there. But Houston has done quite nicely in Business.
