All these years of watching Olajuwon, I assumed the Dreamshake was his double drop-step fadeaway. Ball goes into post. Dream jukes once to the right, retracts, then finally spins right, grabs the the ball and jukes left and then the "shake." If the defender bites either way, Dream could use either foot as his pivot since he establishes himself with that tiny hopstep. Most of the time, they could fly left, allowing Dream to go back to the baseline for the fadeaway. Now that to me was the Dreamshake. Anyone remember the gamewinner over Ronny Seikaly where Dream shook the crap out of him in '95? And I MEAN shook the crap out of Ronny. Apparently everyone is calling everything Dream does the Dreamshake. The infamous move on David Robinson seems to be referred to as the Dreamshake. Or when Dream just does a simple baseline fadeaway it seems to be called a Dreamshake. Dream sitting on the bench eating cookies seems to be called the Dreamshake. Oh well, I know it's petty but when people say Jordan's fadeaway was better than Dream's, I just laugh. I would always reply, "It wasn't the fadeaway, it was the juke show he put on." Noticed, Jordan's defenders were always jumping at him, but the man had God hops. Dream had the hops, too, but most of his opponents couldn't jump because they were too busy trying not to break their knees.
Yeah, I noticed that too in that ESPN article, calling that up and under move the Dreamshake. Go figure *shrug*
the dreamshake is when he's on the baseline, back to the basket, fakes left, then goes right and fades practically shooting from behind the backboard. that's what i always thought atleast.
Dream had the hops, too, but most of his opponents couldn't jump because they were too busy trying not to break their knees. LMAO
Webster's Dictionary reads: Dreamshake: 1)Unstoppable All you need is Hakeem saying unstoppable in his great voice!Ahhhh remember the good old days. Hopefully we can have new great days to come.
Bingo. The "Dreamshake" is the move that frees him for the shot, not necessarily the shot itself. The Ultimate Dreamshake was the one where he de-nutted the Mermaid.
I noticed that as well in the ESPN article. It just that Hakeem had about 100 patent moves in the post (that no one has been able to duplicate) that they just named all of them the Dream shake.
If you look really close at the replay of that one move (fake, then another fake, then an up and under) against Robinson in the playoffs, youll notice something interesting - David Robinson's jock strap laying there on the court. Dream shake wasn't just used for the fallaway/turnaround jumper to his right hand side. He also used it to spin to the left for the jump hook in the lane. Thats what made the move so devastating. He could kill you with the jump hook or the fallaway and because of the dream shake, it was 50/50 shot as to which way he'd go and opponents couldnt committ either way until it was all over. As Bill and Calvin would say "If the right one dont get ya, then the left one will". Great quote.
Although not really a variation of the DS, I remember that ballfake Olajuwon put on Ewing in the 94 Finals. When Olajuwon was facing up on the left baseline, faked toward his right, and spun to his left along the baseline. Ewing was like 5 feet away from Olajuwon by the time Olajuwon dunked it home.
yeah thats actually called the "DreamFake" well, while the topic is getting slightly different, i mite as well add my favorite dream move. remember the '95 finals when shaq was just about to go up for a monster dunk and all of a sudden, dream knocks it straight out of his hands. i love that move b/c of shaqs reaction of the "where the f**k is the ball" look. ahhh a frustrated shaq, the good ol' days.
It should be a Ben and Jerry's flava. Smooth without a bunch of nuttz and crap, straight to the taste buds without the danger of choking.
You can’t define the Dreamshake…Well you can but by the time you do Hakeem has dropped 50 on you and we are planning the parade. Wait is that quote already taken? Aks Shaq to define the Dreamshake he saw it up close and he saw the parade!
To put the legendary Dreamshake in terms such as this should be grounds for flogging. Can't get a Dreamshake in Canada to icey.
His mistake is understandable. Dream's defining play in the media's eyes is that up and under move he did on Patrick Ewing in the first championship run.
I personally like the "no-look" dreamshake. the one and only one he did on the Mermaid (or was it Mermaid and 2 other Spurs?) at the '95 WCF.
