I went to a dealership today and I found two cars: 2001 Saturn SL100: 35,000 miles, $7,995, Free 30 day warranty. 1999 Camry CE: 64,000 miles, $7,950, no warranty that I know of. What do you guys think? I'm going back tomorrow to test drive them both, and take the one I pick to the mechanic to get it checked over well. Is the Saturn a very reliable car or would you guys choose a very good reputive car in the Camry? This is the Camry: 1999 Camry This isnt the exact car, but its close to it: 2001 Saturn SL100
Go with the Toyota. The Saturn is over-priced it looks like. Plus, Toyota is a more dependable long term/high mileage vehicle.
The Camry is base model. You should shop around a little bit more to find a car with a few more options. Maybe try looking for a used Maxima.
Go shop around more, I think you can find a better deal in the newspaper. But if you have to choose from those 2, always go for the Japs car, they last for a long time.

If you're going to buy used, I wouldn't buy American. Of course, I wouldn't buy American anyway(I'm not trying to be a prick; I would just like to be able to count on my car past 100K, whether I keep it that long or not). But a late 90's Honda or Toyota and I think you will be pleased. Personally, I think this one sounds good '96 Infiniti J30 4D Sedan $8,998 Champagne Automatic 6 87K Southwest Freeway Pretty cool car(My dad's friend used to have one)...pretty quick, decent handling, plus plenty of interior amenities(Leather, CD, etc...). Have it checked out, but that car should take you to at least 160-200K.
I too am looking at buying a used car. I found this deal where I live: 2002 Chevrolet Tracker ZR2 Soft Top 8,000 miles $8,500 Good deal? Yay or nay?
I'd say this one looks best off that list. 96 Infiniti G20 4D Sedan $9,599 White Automatic 4 47K Southwest Freeway Lower mileage but not quite as plush as the other infinity. Infinity makes a great car and they seem to be fairly trouble free and last for a while.
The G20 never seemed like a "real" Infiniti to me. It didn't have the features and plushness of the more expensive models. That seems a little pricey, too, for a nine year-old car that stickered at around $24K new. Could probably find a newer, lower-mileage Sentra outfitted with similar features for less money.
wells guys I think I decided. Im going with an 02' Saturn with 36k... sticker price was 7,995 but he only was talked down to $7,795... COmes with a 30 day warranty... when I take it to a mechanic later this week, and he says its not in good condition, i can bring it back and get my money, right? Its not going to be this whole 2 week proccess thing just to return it if its a POS?
Given the choice between a Camry with 64k miles and a Saturn with 36k miles, I would've chosen the Camry. Of course I don't know what condition either was in, so I'm just throwing that out there...
I don't think so....its a 30 day warranty...unless there are state laws or dealer policies, I don't think you can return it.
The Camry is a very dependable car, before you commit to anything shop around a bit more and see what else you can find
Well its weird. I went to the dealership earlier today. I was interested at the good prices on the used Saturns so I went home and looked at the website. ( www.houstonsaturn.com ) I found the Camry on the site, along with other cheap Saturns I didn't see at the dealership, so I called, gave him the Stock #'s and he told me he went OUTSIDE and searched all the numbers I gave him. I give him a list of 4 Saturn #'s and the Camry's Stock #. He comes back and tells me all the Saturns were sold last weekend, but they still had the Camry. I return 4 hours later and a different salesman approaches me and I ask him if I could see the Camry and he tells me he's never had a 99' Camry before. He says what probably happened was, the car on the website (the Camry) was at another Saturn of Houston dealership, but on the website, it gives You the option to view the used inventory of each of the 3 dealerships. When I test drove the car tonght, I looked behind the dealership to make sure it wasn't sitting back there, and they were just hiding it from me. Anyone else thinks this sounds fishy?
Typical used car salesman "bait and switch" tactics. Next time raise hell in that place, and let them know that you're there for the Camry, and if they don't have it you're leaving. You have to remember that there's a million cars for sale in Houston, they should be happy just that you're even interested in buying from them. Go in there and act like you have an 11 inch ****, and get the deal that you want.
