It is still factually true. The Rangers have had a lot of luck and career years from players - that doesn't mean that they are not a good or very good team, but they have had a lot of things go their way. For example today, their starter Jon Gray gave up like 9 hits in 5 innings and the Rays didn't score.
They have 5 of the top 30 fWAR players in the sport (Seager, Semien, Garcia, Heim, and Eovaldi). Is that luck or talent?
Both? Seager and Semien have a track record of high fWAR. Eovaldi has been up and down in his career - and Garcia and Heim have not been nearly as productive in the past, and are not young players, they are likely having career years and/or playing over their heads.
When you check the numbers and realize Stanek has basically been as bad as Montero....... A combined 70 innings of 6.00 era ....... Throw Blanco in there and you have 110 innings of 5.50 era pitching.
I definitely get what you're saying, I just think writing them off as some incredibly lucky team (other poster said luckiest team in history) is largely missing what the Astros are up against for the remainder of the year.
What yall think about Pressly pitching here? I don't like it with a 4-run lead and minimal rest this season Martinez should've pitched and thrown multiple innings
