Another prospect whose career was cut short by the food in the RGV. They got diabetes in the water down there
He needs a real chance...we havent seen his full potential...in Rockets uniform or somewhere else..Garuba needs to play
To answer the question in the thread title, yes, we can claim him off waivers, or sign him once he clears. When a team trades a player who is subsequently waived by the receiving team, it cannot claim the player off waivers or re-sign the player for one year. But we didn’t traded him to OKC. Atlanta did. So we are in the clear.
yeah I got the years screwed up; only 2 yrs (literally a brain fart). But point being that he’s shown pretty good development over just those two years. He’s definitely rosterable, but obviously it only matters what Ime thinks.
While I would love to have him back, it wouldn't be in his best interest. I imagine DB will be spending some time at the 4 when we go small and 3 is already congested as all hell. Where would he even slot in?
JC's mindset was his issue. Never assumed a role to build a nba profile and that was a critical mistake. Many of these young cats (Bol Bol for example) want to be the man and not put in the dirty work. Garuba's lack of instincts, thinking too much, slowed him down. Never could actually show is athleticism.
A good defender yes, but he’s also undersized with no hops and zero ball handling skills, fumbles the ball too much and not an efficient finisher at the rim. He’s too one dimensional to me.
How is he undersized? You realize his natural position is at 4? Invisible on offense? He was shooting 40% from 3 and is a fantastic passer. Don't let him being coached by Silas fool you.
Undersized as a backup center, which is the only position where he would have the slightest chance of earning minutes on this team. I just don't see him getting any run at the 4 spot considering how much deeper we got this offseason. To be frank, I simply do not believe he is actually a good three point shooter. He was never a particularly good shooter in Europe, his free throw percentage is red-flag level low, and he was very unwilling to take them, passing up many open shots. The sample size is far too small--he only attempted 59 three pointers in 71 games played. I think it's likely his high percentage numbers were a fluke. He's a good rebounder, and you're right, he's a good passer considering his age and position. He just doesn't do enough other things to get on the court with a good team, IMO. Like almost everyone who came off our bench last season, he is a third string player at best in the NBA. Possible he'll prove me wrong, he's still young enough to get better, but that's where I'm at right now based on watching him play.
