Meh. I know some posters were high on his defense, but I just don't think he is athletic enough to make up for being so undersized, so I'm not sold on him being a true plus as a defender. And he is essentially invisible on offense (doesn't hurt you but doesn't really help either). He's at the end of the bench on any decent team IMO.

Garuba, isnt a player of a high enough standard to be on a first class team like the NEW RocketsY

I don't think he is undersized as a backup power forward...certainly better than Darius Days.

He moved better last year than his Rookie year. Was hoping to see a big leap this year for him. Would like him back.

I mean we do already have Jeff Green as our third string PF/C.

I wouldn't object to adding Garuba back to that group, but I don't think he moves the needle either. These kinds of moves are like choosing which napkins you put out for Thanksgiving dinner.

As a backup PF, though, he's underskilled.

    He is definitely not.

He barely played at PF in the NBA. And when he did, he looked awful. No shot, no movement, no ability to open the lane, no playmaking, and no ability to guard the 4.

I don't understand how anyone listed him as a backup 4 in their team lineups.

Secondly, even if we wanted him back, we can't sign him until a year has passed from the trade date (I think)

Between Sengun, Jabari, Landale, Uncle Jeff and Tari/Cam getting also getting minutes at the 4 he really was expendable and there’s no room/need for him.

I’d sign him if Ime was actually going to play him. He’s good and never got a chance. Same for Tyty. Our gm sucks

Folks, the team watched Garuba every day in practice. They’ve seen 100x as much of him playing basketball as any of us.

They chose to play Boban over him last season in games at the end of the year when we weren’t tanking. They knew Garuba had no future at that point already. All you need to know.

Garuba was a miss. He’s not an NBA player, and he won’t be anytime soon. It happens. We move on.

We drafted him super young and raw. His first year was a disappointment being overweight and injured. He flashed at the end of year two with his limited opportunities. In year 3 he took a real step developing a reliable 3pt shot over a respectable sample size. I think he’s only 21 and Ime seems like the kind of coach that could help him take another big step. I would not be sad about being him back on the roster. But I trust the coaching staff to know his good he really is.

Sure but you can't offer Garuba a 2 way contract .... but you can give that to Days and he's thrilled about it.

Garuba just isn't an NBA player at either position. He'll be playing in China or some other crap league.

Fair enough. But later on you said we played Boban over him when we weren't tanking.

We were tanking all season long...

Garuba's strength weren't properly utilized b/c we had a sht coach who couldn't even figure out how to play Smith and a sht pg who lacks the playmaking ability to highlight garuba's strength. Man has the high bbiq, and good playmaking ability. I think he would shine in an actual offense system where he knows his role, which couldn't b done due to having silas as the coach and kpj as his pg.

He's probably one of the best defender on the team and he was getting confident shooting the 3s.
It was stupid getting rid of garuba and tyty for nothing and too early.

He's in the same draft class as green, sengun and jc. They are entering their 3rd year next season.
Not calling u out, but some folks aren't really watching garuba play and already declaring him not an nba player without factoring his sht situation.

He's not gonna b a starting five, but he's a good bench player with strong defensive game, high bbiq and quick feet. Just needs a competent pg to spoon feed him buckets.
