Maulvin Tayto AKA Kelrice Kator would've been an all star PF. :D

Here's a really in-depth breakdown of the signing by the Chronicle.

The Rockets today filled their void at point guard with the signing of free agents Charlie Ward and Bob Sura.

Since the trade of Steve Francis to Orlando and the Tracy McGrady deal, the Rockets have been shopping for a starting point guard.

Today they got two of them. Ward and Sura will compete with veteran Tyrone Lue, who was also aquired from Orlando, for playing time.

The Rockets made inquiries about a number of other guards including Brent Barry and Derek Fisher.

In Ward, they are getting a near perect extension of coach Jeff Van Gundy. Ward played for Van Gundy with the New York Knicks, and the coach has long held him in high regard.

We need to deal with Chicago: AG for Frank Williams, Pike for Mutombo, send them a second rounder if needed.

That frees up some minutes at the 2 and 3 while also getting us Frank Williams who may be our future PG. This would make us look like this:

    Yao/Mutombo
    MoT/Howard/Spoon
    JJ/Sura/Boki
    T-Mac/Sura
    Ward/Williams/Sura

We would be SOLID as hell and done dealing.

I'm sure we got these guys cheap, but I don't like either one of them starting. I'd rather play Mark Jackson and let Reece and Ward back him up.

Not that excited or even relieved by these signings.

    2 players who:

    1) poor shooters
    2) Weak in assists

    However,
I've seen Sura practice layup drills on the Rocks and his height could be very helpful in certain situations.

So I guess Lue as the starter with Sura with spot minutes. No CLUE why we brought in Ward.

I hope Mutumbo is NOT the back up center though---
He's almost 40, and can barely move!!

There has to be someone else the Rockets can get for Piatkowski...

No more PG threads, Whoo Hoo!

They played it safe with these signings. As long as Sura/Lue/Ward can take care of the ball, feed the post, and hit an occasional jump shot we'll be fine.

im not too excited about these signings, but i guess it'll do for the short term.

but please, please PLEASE no mutumbo. the guy is more of a negative than a positive, when he comes into the game the whole teams production goes down.

What if the Frankenstein experiments went horribly wrong and you got a:

PF with Cato's hands and shot + Mo's rebounding, defense and cheesecake eating abilities???

PG with Sura's pea-sized brain and bad back + Ward's old, brokendown-edness and "You, yes you, are going to hell" worldly view???

Hey... he never had players with the skills of Yao and T-mac. Ewing was already old/injured, and Sprewell had nowhere near the talent.

I'm all for getting role players who know how to do their jobs... but teams are built on superstars.

Both Ward and Sura are solid role players, nothing more, nothing less. It's a solid pick up if it's cheap. We needed depth in the worst way, especially after the T-Mac trade. T-Mac, Boki, and Jackson will can play the 3 ... Jackson, Sura, and T-Mac can play the 2. Very versitile and tall combos at the 2 and 3 spots. I figure, Pike is gone, and we are standing pat with Ward and Lue at the 1. Not bad, but we still need a solid Cato replacement.

On Ward, he is solid. He won't make mistakes, he plays defense, and he shoots the 3 really well. That is all we need in our PG. Ward is not as bad as people are saying, he' pretty damn solid.

Sura is instant spark off the bench. Taylor, Sura, Boki or Jackson will be studs off the bench. That's a high-energy 2nd team. Cant' wait for the rest of the picture to play out.

i wouldnt mind having Mutombo his carrer avg. for reb are like 11 and his carrer avg. for block is like 3, he would make a fine backup center, he would only be playing 13 min
