So, the greatest movie ever made......? Also, 2 part question: 1. Who is the better warrior Alita or Alex Honnold? 2. Who has the bigger eyes?
1. The guy from Grizzly Man who camped with bears 2. The guy from Grizzly Man as the bear was killing him
Saw it last night; while the fight scenes and slow motion was pretty cool, the story wasn't all that great. Hugo and Alita's chemistry felt forced and Hugo just seemed like a pretty boy with Disney channel acting. Didn't like the conclusion but they might set it up as a sequel. However, the movie brought in only 30-40M and the budget was 150-200M making this a flop
Alita is doing decently well outside the US. The global box office so far is about $350M (20% domestic, 80% outside US). I hope they make a sequel. It was an enjoyable action flick to me.
A good comparison is Pacific Rim. That one made just a hair over $100 MM domestically and then another $309 MM internationally on a $190 MM budget and got greenlit for a sequel. But they reduced the budget on the sequel to $150. I could see them doing a sequel but trimming the budget down.Alita likely won't quite get over $100 MM domestically but it could come close to $400 MM worldwide. I'm hoping they make another.
That's what I've been hoping for as well, solid comparison with Pacific Rim....I just hope that if they do make another one, we get a better result than Pacific Rim Uprising which was inferior to the original.....
ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL Producer James Cameron Reveals More Than One Sequel Is Currently In Development Those of you holding out hope for another Alita: Battle Angel movie have good reason to get excited today because franchise writer and producer James Cameron has finally confirmed his sequel plans... News By JoshWilding - Jul 12, 2023 03:07 AM EST Filed Under: Sci-Fi Source: Forbes (via SFFGazette.com)ducer James Cameron (who originally planned to helm Alita: Battle Angel before passing the reigns to Robert Rodriguez in order to focus on his Avatar sequels). Talking to Forbes (via SFFGazette.com) about why he's selling his mansion in California, the filmmaker casually dropped his sequel plans into the conversation. "On Avatar, I’m working in Wellington and Los Angeles," Cameron said. "And on the new Alita: Battle Angel films, I’ll be working in Austin, so it just didn’t make sense for us anymore." Clearly, we're getting not one but two sequels, news we know many of you will welcome. This comes after various minor updates in recent months, and after Avatar: The Way of Water's massive success, we're sure Disney will be open to giving Cameron free rein with revisiting this sci-fi franchise. Alita: Battle Angel was a success at the box office with a $405 million haul globally, but received mixed reviews from critics. Cameron produced and co-wrote the movie, so he's no doubt found it easy to convince the studio it's a property worth revisiting providing he remains closely involved. We'll see what happens, but with fans making it clear they're interested in a sequel, it appears Disney has finally taken note. Whether another Alita movie is a worthwhile investment is hard to say, especially as the first had a reported production budget of $150 million - $200 million. However, if Cameron's comments are anything to go by, we'd imagine the sequels will be shot back-to-back, a cost-cutting measure which could make an expansion of the VFX-heavy franchise a more appealing prospect to the House of Mouse.
I'd love for this to get a sequel, I really like the first one. In fact actually liked it more when I rewatched it recently. I think moneymaker god Cameron may have threw some weight around if a sequel gets made.
I thought the first one was good enough for a sequel. The googly anime eyes did take some getting used to but it wasn't too uncanny.
The sequel (and beyond) only works if they have Rosa Salazar lined up. Otherwise it's a hard no from me.
I've revisted this movie a couple times since it originally came out and I like it more and more. I think they really nailed the casting and the world just feels so interesting and lived in. I am very stoked that they are pursing this as a franchise. Hopefully they can get the main acting talent back on board.
Sign me up for a sequel, I saw this news earlier this week but I'll hold my excitement until they actually start shooting something.....
