Warner Bros. Pictures has released the first trailer for “Wonka,” the upcoming musical feature that serves as a prequel to the classic Roald Dahl story and, more specifically, the 1971 Gene Wilder-led film adaptation of it. Timothee Chalamet stars as a young Willy Wonka around 25 years before the events of the “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” novel and well before he became the famed chocolate factory owner. Calah Lane, Olivia Colman, Rowan Atkinson, Keegan-Michael Key, Paterson Joseph, Matt Lucas, Mathew Baynton, Paterson Joseph, Natasha Rothwell, Jim Carter and Sally Hawkins also star, whilst Hugh Grant will play an Oompa Loompa. “Paddington” director Paul King directed the project and co-wrote the script with Simon Farnaby. Speaking with EW, King says the 1971 film “felt like what a Willy Wonka movie should be” with this to be “like a companion piece to that movie”. In the film, Willy opens a chocolate shop using the knowledge of sweets he has amassed from his travels. The original was one of my all-time kid faves and still watch it whenever I see its on. The Johnny Depp version was not my cup of tea, but this prequel if you will looks really good!!! I`m down, cant wait to see it!
Hugh Grant is the oompa loompa. That should be funny. Albeit, I would like to have seen Jeff Goldblum be an oompa loompa. Imagine him singing the oompa loompa song playing a piano. lol
Who doesn't want to see this...But, I do agree that the Wonka didn't have enough character in the trailer or enough dialogue inflection. The oompa was surprisingly the fun part of the trailer. The factory and journey he takes will be interesting.
The best part was when I thought about Gene Wilder (which was the whole damn time). Will watch though.
This isn't Willy Wonka. Not weird enough. Uninteresting. Must be the actor cause I didn't buy him in Dune either. Zendaya neither.
It seems way over the top. The whole flying around holding some balloons bit while doing aerial acrobatics. Oh, brother! I know were supposed to suspend disbelief but I'm just too old for that **** at this point. Even my inner child barfed when I saw that.
Just not feeling it dawg. Seems whimsical but not in a good way. I'm just not the audience for this, but I do enjoy Timothee Chalamet and his work.
