Courtesy @BimaThug via Twitter:

“#Rockets seem to prefer having optionality to EITHER create cap room next summer OR have a ton of NG'teed/expiring salary to make trades at the trade deadline and into next summer.

Seems they valued THAT flexibility over using their current cap room to take on $, acquire assets.”

Sounds like the move is to continue to prepare for the future. I wonder how much cap space this could potentially give us next year? What potential free agents or restricted free agents we have to address internally?

my assumption with adding FVV and DB we would be up against it no matter what next year. Maybe not?

Per 36min stats wouldn't suggest so.

Capela's rebound rate is 50% higher. Plus Capela hasn't launched 3-5 3-pointers at 25-30% rates the past two years. Capela does seem to be regressing while Jock is still looking up. Capela is also a know entity as a rim running/rim protecting center. The advanced defensive metrics - take your pick do not like Capela that much the past 2-3 seasons as they do Brook Lopez or other top 10 defensive centers, so that might be a reason to avoid him in the Ime system. But Jock Landale should be a backup guy who is hoping to earn 20 minutes a game, not a replacement for Lopez

I just don't see it, if they knew Capela coming then I don't see why they would have signed Landale.

You are probably correct, but I think they still want another big. I just think the Rockets messed up the whole Lopez signing and the after math and some are hoping that Capela is the rabbit that Stone pulls out of the hat when everything settles, but it seems like that is unrealistic and the Rockets are done with meaningful trades. I would still want Capela even if we already had Jock.

I have zero interest in Capela. Yes he is a very good rebounder but I don’t like the rest of his game.

Depending on how much the cap grows over the summer, Rockets could have a max slot next offseason. (Just over 50m)

have the details of the brooks contract been released? There were reports of declining annual values and incentives which could make it look slightly better in the out years. Sportrac still only has estimates...
I think it becomes more and more clear that Stone and Udoka needed to overpay for guys to come play here. What good are all those 2nd rounders? Salary filler? When the parameters started coming out yesterday I was taken aback, but when you can step back from the ledge and look at the entirety of the situation what exactly were the glaring errors that will hinder the team moving forward? Is this all on Stone? Do you think Udoka didnt have a say in how all this shook out? Team wanted FVV and Brooks BAD and they did what they needed to in order to make that happen. Brook Lopez backing out didnt help and I wish I could know what the numbers were before he went back to MIL, but I'd guess that if Stone would have chunked him 30Ms plus we would have a new starting center and this place would be burning down as we speak. All of a sudden an extra 2Ms for Jeff Green is causing a meltdown because it impacts the cap? I just find that a little amusing. Damned if you do and damned if you dont.
Well....that is obvious. They did overpay. That's because they had the most cap space in the league.

That doesn't mean you needlessly send out assets to do it.

Don't think so, but since its 4 years 80m, and raises are capped at 5%, it probably looks like this

Chief: So why did one kitchen fire lead to the entire block burning?
Captain: Well, we had a good plan but then the gas line exploded and we didn't know what to do next.
Chief: You didn't have the gas line shut off?
Captain: We didn't think it was necessary. We had a good plan. It was so good we were celebrating beforehand.
Chief: Did you have a plan if the other homes caught fire?
Captain: No. You have to understand our initial plan was really good and according to that plan, it was all going to work out.
Chief: I ought to bust you down to squaddie.
Captain: But your son helped with the plan and was encouraging us along the way.
Chief: Oh, well. Carry on then Captain.

Jocks contract is only guaranteed for this upcoming season, perhaps they think they can use his contract at the trade deadline as an expiring??

Just thinking through the keyboard, not saying this is in play....

Did we trade all of our own second rounders for 3 consecutive yrs till 2030 for pretty much no return? Lol. I thought we were supposed to add to our team in free agency, not send out future assets.
