Over the course of my time on this BBS, I have seen trades proposed left and right by respective posters on this BBS. The vast majority of these proposed trades are pipedreams to say the least. So here is my proposal...do not propose a trade unless you would be willing to do it from the other side. For example (purely hypothetical) , please do not propose that we trade Pike and the trade exception for Kevin Garnett unless you yourself would be willing to give up Kevin Garnett for Pike and the trade exception. Am I wrong for my proposal?
My proposed new guidelines for proposing rules for proposing trades: Umm, make sure that..uh.. Okay, I don't have any. I just wanted to type the first line. I'm sure someone will probably take it to the next level.
Your proposal generally makes sense ....but those rules go out the window when you've got geniuses like Danny Ainge and Donald Sterling around. Hey, let's give it to Mikey, he'll eat anything. D R
Any trade that works on RealGM is considered a trade. I sure did not see anyone come up with the package for McGrady that went down. Does that mean even people who try to make up rules for trade proposals should actually post an actual trade that transpired before being credited with the power to make rules? Just kidding boss us around some more.
ahh... but you forget about the phrase that Outrageous Trade Proposal Guy always clings to: "and here's why [insert team here] does it" and almost invaribly the reasoning for the other team doing the ridulous trade is more outrageous than the trade usually its something like "they will trade Garnet NOW cause he still has some value" or "they want to take Mo Taylor because he is cap relief in 2012!" OR... (my favorite) " they will tade Hinrich because they drafted a point guard for the future AND Mo T gives them cap relief in 2012!"
Seriously, put a sock in it you guys. 1) You don't have to read them. 2) Even trades that actually happened would have been opposable, so for one of YOU guys to say a trade is not fair means absolutely nothing. 3) We are not predicting trades. We are discussing possibilities and the effects they may have on our team. For the love of God stop whining about trade threads. Trade threads cannot possibly be more annoying than the guy who comes into the thread and whines.
Your point is well taken. My only point is that the trades that people propose should be semi-realistic. There should be some possibility that the trade could legitimately take place. We got T-Mac, and we gave up Francis, Mobley, and Cato. The Heat got Shaq and gave up Brian Grant, Caron Butler, and Lamar Odom. I can't think of a single trade made by a GM that was blatant sabotage. I think we should refrain fron proposing blatant sabotage trades. But once again, that's just my two cents. You can do whatever you like
I really enjoy the trade proposals, but it is advisable to run them through RealGM to see if the numbers work. Also, the corollary is that the trade is not necessarily plausible just because the numbers work. It's more complicated than that.
My proposed amendment for the proposed new guidelines for proposing rules for proposing trades: actually provide new guidelines.
Agreed. But you need to realize that your "realistic" is not universal - i.e., maybe I think it's realistic and you don't. Who's to say I'm right or you're right? It's a matter of opinion. Aside from this, many people don't understand the financial part of trades. Financial relief is a huge factor in trades these days, and many posters think it's just player A for player B, which is simply not the case. For example, why would the Sonics trade Booth for Weatherspoon? Booth is clearly the better player, Baqui99 will attest to that . However, Boot hahs an extra year, so the Sonics may be inclined to make this deal. However, you usually have one dumbass poster soming in and saying "Spoon is fat and lazy, at least Booth can block some shots." Way more complicated. Sonics need a backup PF, we need a backup C. They are more in need of cap flexibility. We need shotblocking, they need scoring/rebounding...ETC.... Point being, rarely do people agree on trades and the best you can do is discuss it. I think the Rockets/Magic deal was good, however, I think the Mavs made horrible trade after horrible trade this offseason. All of them were crap. If someone had proposed any of them here, I would rip their proposal up. You see what I'm saying? If you don't like them, ignore them. If you want to read them, be logical and understand the WHOLE trade.
I say we do what a few other BBS's have done - have a separate forum for fan trade proposals. This way, if you're really bored, you can make up a trade there or comment on someone else's trade.
you would have if T-mac really held a gun to their head the way it was reported. Remember, no one was offering any value once Tmac poo=pooed resigning with certain teams. O-town had no choice
So, you expect people who don't have the discretion not to post such silly threads to recognize that they're silly, eh ?
Or maybe we can split this forum in half and have regular GARM talk on the top half of the screen and fan trade proposals on the bottom half. Or maybe a separate forum would be more convenient.
that would be a lot easier if they were separated from the news reported trades and the actual trades tht occur. the problem is, Mr. Jackleg Outrageous Trade Proposer titles his thread "Rockets trade for JASON KIDD" or "Hinrich a Rocket !!!"
