You’ll all love him until you see him shoot an outside shot. Think of Theis without any outside shot. Watch the games he played in….pure bricklayer from outside of 5 feet. Love how we try to act like we stole Landale for 32 million. Rockets to their credit tried to get Powell but Mavs gave more money. I said in another post Christian Wood and got taken apart. Guarantee Wood could shoot and produce 100x better than this scrub.
Yes, because we need our center shooting as many outside shots as possible....That's the go to position for a player to be a good shooter.... Guess we are back to rebuilding again until we get a 7 foot Curry....
He sounds like he knows the league (and the Rockets) quite well. He even checked Sengun's minutes. A lot of players just talk whatever they think with lots of cliche. Jock seems like he does his homework.
Yes, in today’s NBA you gotta be able to shoot a shot outside of 5 feet. Guess what Brook Lopez and KAT and Emblid do? We got a poor man’s Theis versus a real center and that makes you happy….so enjoy. Just another bricklayer to throw in with Thompson and Brooks.
Ime Udoka: “Shut up and stand over there with your hands up. Don’t put them down - I mean it Jake.” Jock Landale: “Oye - it’s Jock.” Ime Udoka: “Hands up!”
Why do centers "gotta" be able to shoot from the outside? Oh, because like 2% of recent star centers shoot from the outside however none of them go to an outside shot late in games nor is it their go to offensive option because what makes them valuable is their size that just so happens to be a huge advantage down low close to the basket and a disadvantage from distance. Wood shoots from the outside and he sucks as a center, because he sucks at everything that makes a center good alongside his $hitty attitude and entitlement.
I don't believe he is a bad shooter, I think he just had a down year, and there were some usage issues with the Suns. His career 3P% internationally was 37.3%. He's more of a corner 3P shooter, a lot of his shots were from that area when he was with the Spurs, and he shot much better. Hardly any shots were from the corners with Phoenix, and his percentages took a dive. Udoka will know how to use him to get him knocking down shots.
His job is just gonna be to defend, grab rebounds and Dunk open shots. Wood is an amazing offensive machine but can't defend to save his life that's why Mavs didn't even resign him.
@Os Trigonum what happens if Landale and green start getting 25 minutes a night together? Will CF survive?
I have been somewhat in awe and slightly frightened listening to Udoka, Thompson, and Landale speak. It’s as if I am hearing basketball truth from the Rockets I have not heard in years. It almost sounds like a group of people coming together that understand the business of basketball. I want to believe………. My body is ready……..
Trying to watch more film on him, if anyone finds more full games please post. So far he's looking like a serviceable backup center who does the dirty work. I love role players who relish being great role players, they are focused on team results over individual and those guys help you win games. Old numbers-based breakdown from a few years ago, he's likely improved since so take from it what you will. Random channel but has data to back up scouting so it's not bad. His game against us: When Popovich trolled him as a new player https://youtube.com/shorts/YrHlKvrlOS4?feature=share
Just so glad we are adding some serious, committed professionals like FVV, Landale, and Amen, although it still doesn't explain Dillon f***ing Brooks.
