    Reported on MLB.com...

Looks like they got Larry Walker for a pitching prospect. I don't know what to think about the deal. Any insights? Honestly I have a feeling it can go one of two ways.

    1) Walker is getting old, and he's a .280 hitter away from Coors. So he'll not be spectacular, like Tino Martinez...

    2) Walker will experiene a rebound, as lots of middle aged players have, in St. Louis.

Who knows? At least they got the Rockies to absorb about half of his salary.

Im really happy about this trade. If he can stay off the DL he will be a excellent addition. I really hope he wont be a bust like Tino was and dont really think he will be. At worst Walker is at least an upgrade over the platoon at LF.

Some of the only knocks against him i have read is that over the last few years he hasnt been trying his hardest. That should change now that he isnt on a loosing team.

From what i have read about what they gave up its a one A closer that wasnt much of a prospect and 2 minor leaguers to be named later. Molina and Harren wont be involved since they are on the major league sqaud.

Another thing is im curious who they send down. I really hope its isnt Mabry or Taguchi. I have really liked their play as of late.

hey dude... here's the Cards lineup that I like

    Womack
    Renteria
    Pujols
    Rolen
    Edmonds
    Mabry
    Cedeno
    Matheny
    Pitcher

Not really that big of a fan of Reggie's style, lots of K and GIDP... with an offense that good... you can just play small ball (LOL) with the 6-7-8 and go for high OBP, you definitely don't need any more power. Mabry's been playing awesome... he wasn't ever this good the first time he was on the Cards. I like Taguchi... but I mean Cedeno is playing better... who do you send down?

I also don't like how they try to play Marlon Anderson... and while I understand trying to work Luna in, they should stop doing that soon too.

Anyway... if Walker can put up Mabry numbers everyday then I would be stoked. Play Cedeno or Mabry in left field... don't even play Sanders anymore.

But yeah... anyway... when 1-7 hits at or above .300 it's pretty nasty.

Also... they should go back to Pujol-Edmonds-Rolen... but then again maybe don't mess with a good thing?

oh yeah... who's better? jim edmonds?... or barry bonds? I can't believe Jim Edmonds has been better than barry bonds for almost two months. no way he can continue this streak though... so better start slumping soon so that he can get it out of his system by playoff time.

    Where's Walker in that linup?

Im also not a huge Sanders fan mostly because of his defensive shortcommings. Still he is a really solid back of the order guy. He is also a decent baserunner which also comes in handy.

Also as much as i like Mabry he isnt a very good fielder. Other than Taguchi, Walker is now the best defensive LF on the team.

I think Lankford may be on the DL but if he isnt its time for the team to let him go. He was one of my favorites in his prime but he isnt exactly in his prime anymore.

Cool. I want the Cardinals to be stacked...beat up on the teams we need to lose. Once the playoffs are here, anything can happen.

Im definitly cool with the Stros taking the wild card rather than the cubs.

yeah... i don't like the cubs... plus they have what it takes to beat the cardinals too.

as for the lineup obviously you play Walker instead of Mabry, I was talking about pre trade lineup. Still like Cedeno in left field instead of Sanders... maybe then can split time. wish there was some way to fit mabry in the lineup but there isn't. They really should do a cedeno/mabry-edmonds-walker outfield... that would destroy right handed pitching.

Okay... now all that needs to happen is for the mets to give up trying to make the playoffs and trade Tom Glavine to us. 8-10 with a 2.9 ERA??? That's prepostrous. On the Card's he'd be like 15-2. I mean Morris is 12-5 with a 4.7 or something.

Same here. I'm a huge Cards fan, but the Cubs scare the hell out of me in a seven-game series.

The Cubs starting pitching is devistating to say the least. When healthy its one of the best i have every seen. However their bullpen is pretty brutal and i think that will likely lead to their downfall.

It's been my downfall. I have LaTroy Hawkins on my fantasy team and I'm stuck in 4th place after last week after spending most of the summer at 2nd.

If Mabry gets sent down, wouldn't that mean he was "designated for assignment"? In other words, he has been in the majors for so long, that sending him to the minors is the same as releasing him.

As for the deal itself, I think it is a decent deal that can be much better if Walker plays with some fire. If the pitching prospect was Haren, though, they might regret this deal.

More and more, it looks like the Cards are the only team that has a great chance of beating the Yankees in the World Series. So, go Cards!

It couldn't be LaTroy that is hurting you. I have him too(along with Rivera, Foulke and Herges) and he's been pretty reliable.
