The jeter thing is a stretch, jeter was literally the worst defender in an entire sport. Kobe is massively overrated but at times was good, so that’s not totally fair though i agree with your overall point

Question: I know the rockets are looking for ways to use the remaining cap space but say nothing decent materializes, couldn't we tell ATL sorry and cancel the trade since it's not official yet?

Who the **** was Stone bidding against?

I don't see any other team offering more than the MLE for this guy.

By no way am I conveying that I think this is a good deal but I like the player.

I am ok with it though considering the front loading. Brooks really has a vast defensive profile. Grant Williams is a fine interior defender when he is not crazily overmatched, but to my eyes only seems slightly above average on the perimeter. He can’t take the #1 perimeter option nightly. Nor can Taurean Prince. We might want FVV or even Green on speedier point guards BUT Brooks can can handle 1-3 and most 4’s if needed.

VanVleet becomes your 2nd best perimeter defender. That is a good set-up. Brooks is young and I assume just learned a valuable lesson from his dad Lebron. I hope Tari takes that spot soon BUT I think considering the contract situation of our young seven guys paying Brooks for the next four years to fill a very specific role is going to do a lot for us.

They didn't put Thorpe or Horry on Ewing or Robinson.

    Thanks for proving my point.

The more ppl dislike it & diminish this guy's ability the more I like the move. This move was Ime approved & that should be all the reason you need. Ime is going to have this team on point defensively & Dillion Brooks will be a big reason why.

Again this guy is 2nd team All- Defense that is not an easy accomplishment.
All the guys that are All Defense roughly make around what Dillion is getting.

It's a bit overpaid. If this contract is heavily front-loaded, then I am okay with it. Hopefully, the first two years would be close to 30 mil per while the last two years would be around 10 mil per.

Yah more players are like harden then kobe/Jordan. Also scottie typically guarded the other teams best player

I'll tell you what, when Brooks and Green are both making all nba defense then you can make such a comparison....

Man was watching some Brooks game footage again and I was reminded... I can't stand that dude. Exactly the opposite type of character I believe this team needs. Yes he's a good defender, but he's a jackass. Only hope is he realizes that his overall attitude and approach to the game, his persona, wears on not only his opponents, but his team and the fans. Still can't believe he got 4 yrs guaranteed. Maybe he smarts up and Udoka gets through to him. Do not need anymore clowns on the team.

He's the clown this team did NOT need but of course we're the ones to throw a crazy contract at him while there was no other competition for his services...no one ones to deal with his antics but we had to be the ones to want him...SMH

The only problem is that’s we just rewarded him to the tune of $80 mil over 4 yrs for his behavior. Usually you do that after someone has changed their behavior, not before ;)

I clearly said he can be good defender not great (hence all nba) I also agreed that today's players are more closer to harden than. Kobe Jordan. At no point did I ever compare green to Kobe or Jordan. Just disputing the fact that Jordan always guarded the other teams best player. Even though he was capable, it would be dumb to put your best offensive player on a tough defensive assignment if you don't have to.

Not saying there isn't some truth to what you say but I think you oversell it...

    Bleacher Report:

His offense was perhaps equally good to his defense. He was an athletic, strong, skilled and quick defender that would often guard the opponent's top scorer while still lighting up the scoreboard.

He had quick hands that he used to strip the ball and cause many fast breaks. Plus his ability to block shots was awesome too. He often locked his man without a problem, and earned the 1998 Defensive Player of the Year award.

He also got nine All-NBA First Defensive Team selections, a record that he shares with Gary Payton.

Feel like the conversation has diverted a bit so let me summarize

Jalen green not mj or Kobe
Most stars in nba currently not mj or Kobe
Most,l teams in the NBA don't have their best scorer guard other teams best player
To call green a failure bc he will never be the player who can pick up the othe teams best player (thus the need for brooks) is an unfair expectation

    Have independence day
