From what I understand, 610 is reported that the Rockets are in serious talks with the Celtics to aquire GP. Something along the lines of a player and draft picks. Did anybody hear the report? Also, if the Celtics do want to deal GP, to Houston or elsewhere, they have to do it within 24 hours of the previous trade, or they won't be able to trade him for 90 days. I think Houston should pull the trigger on this deal, if the rumor is indeed true. I mean, sure he's not the same GP as of old, but if all else fails, he only has one more year left on his contract or something. If worse comes to worse, the Rockets could let him walk after his contract is up, and pick up capspace.
wha?? i missed the memo that GP was on the Celts in the first place... and I live in Boston hahaha... sigh... guess i've been too busy to get news anywhere else be on here lately.
Can anyone confirm? I think some of the info is wrong. If he's traded alone, he can be traded anytime they want, nothing to do with 48 hours. This would be decent, except I'm not sure JJ, Howard and GP can share.
I'm thinking either Mo. T or Howard will probably end up being dealt. Just hopefully it's not Nachbar. (I think I read somewhere awhile back that Ainge likes Boki)
disagree -- contract season, wants to prove himself. bigger than Tyronne Lue. one year contract so there's NO RISK at all. why not?
I was surprised we couldn't get him from LA weeks ago. But this is who we wanted. So I'd wager strongly this is a done deal.
Exactly. Interesting Page 2 article from ESPN. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=simmons/040806
In all due respects, do you really think GP is a JVG kind of player, attitude-wise? Do we want the clubhouse infected with another whiner?
I agree. One year isn't so much of a risk, though I'd hate to lose one of our power forwards for him. I thought Ainge's plan has been stockpiling draft picks...
I will die of happiness if we trade MoT for Payton and Yogi Stewart. But I don't think that deal is possible for another 60 days. Payton and a 1st rounder for the TE and a second rounder is decent too.
no... but i think he's pretty much lost his star leverage after last season. he has no right to whine. i don't think gary payton just all of a sudden forgot how to play basketball... so it's a risk that could bear big rewards. and if he doesn't pan out... drop him after one year.
Heck, drop him midway through the season if he doesn't work out. Trade him to a team that needs capspace. Whatever. One year is nothing.
Payton would be great! He would be motivated to getting a championship with us. Even though he's slowed down, he's still one of the top 10 PGs in the league, very smart, good court awareness, passes well, and seldom loses the ball. Sure, a Francis can cross him over now, but he would be better than anyone else we might be able to get out there. I would hope we find a way to get additional PG talent that we could groom behind him, along with Gaines, but as long as we are dealing with a one year contract, this is a no-brainer.
I believe you are mistaken on this. There was a guy who asked a question about if the Rockets could get Peyton from the Celtics and 610 guys said they could see the Rockets maybe going after him.
