I doubt that happens. Amen and Cam will still be on rookie deals when it's time for Tari's extension. By then it's unlikely Dillon's $18 contract will be that bad.

Whatever this organization is thinking, they hired a middling PG from a team that was having chemistry issues and they hired a non-elite defensive specialist on a downward career spiral for FOUR years on an OVERPAID contract - a player with narcissistic tendencies who brought with him a whole lot of negative national media to a team that is trying to right its image within the league and that image depends on the national media. Dillain the Villain is not getting "fixed" by a coach. Coaches are not miracle workers - they statistically add a few games either way. Vets play a big role on culture and chemistry and I don't see a narcissist who will likely be louder than VanVleet in the locker room do anything good. I'd rather have the nutty Irving in my locker room than Brooks. F*ck.
Darryl would at least not tie us up to bad contracts even if he lacked ability to build culture. I'm personally taking a year off from this crap. Good luck

•How did we go from “Tari, Bari, Martin, Tate, Whitmore, there’s not enough minutes” to “We gotta sign Brooks.”

•What happened to “no long term deals” (beyond 2 years) to giving this guy a reported 4 years guaranteed?

•I think both are true: he did have other suitors and who else were they competing against? I don’t know how many he actually met with but it was reported the Lakers, Bucks, Mavs, Rockets.

Lakers were busy re-signing their own guys and some other guys. (Rui Hachimura, D’Angelo Russell, Austin Reaves, Gabe Vincent, Cam Reddish, Taurean Prince, Jaxson Hayes) Cross them off.

Bucks re-signed Middleton, Lopez and Crowder.

And the Mavs same as LA (Kyrie Irving, Dwight Powell, Seth Curry, Dante Exum).

So who were they competing with?

The Kings want(ed) to pay Ryan Anderson…don’t get into a bidding war. Let them pay him $80M.
The Lakers or Bucks or Mavs want to pay him $80M, let them pay him.

Apologies if this has been posted already, but it gives me some more hope.

We all want a pat bev on our team, I assume that no one is stupid enough to fork over 20 mil for him though, but I guess stone is just stupid

It will take some time, but after a few games, I think the board will warm up to Dillon Brooks. His reputation precedes him, especially because he was running his mouth in the playoffs. But physically, he refused to back down against LeBron. I sort of like that in a player.

He was the longest-tenured Grizzlies player, and they decided he was expendable. So I hope Brooks lets that fuel his passion and he'll get back to basics.

We don't need any divas or players that sulk or point fingers. We need toughness, grit, and teamwork. And if Brooks is going to be paid to be a 3 and D guy, we do need his shooting percentage to climb.

Well, yes, but I just looked up his advanced stats, I hadn't realized how awful they were...so weird.

What surprised me was that even the advanced defensive stats looked bad.

Will just have to trust Ime here.

When you are being tasked with guarding the best wings night night out, your numbers are going to take a hit regardless. Add to that, with many defensive stats questionable at best, you are going to get surprising numbers sometimes. That said, I hate the signing.

Dillon Brooks most likely will be the 6th man.

He did himself no favors having a big mouth and then hiding from the media when his team lost. He deserves all the heat he is getting. It also doesn't help that he feels he deserves a larger offensive role when I would argue he had a lot of freedom in the Grizzlies offense and yet he is inefficient as hell.

I really do pray he grows up here, because he can definitely be worth his contract if he plays within the offensive scheme that coach Ime is trying to run and does his usual work on the defensive end.
