I have seen many, many witty posts akin to something like: “Lolz, why do you care how much money Tilman spends on a free agent?! It’s HIS money - doesn’t impact you…” and other equally clever posts. Here is the thing…while none of us are weeping over the loss of Tilman’s money, be us skeptics or true believers in the unparalleled genius of his ownership (@Salvy), we as fans have a right to hope and expect that our team will be run in an intelligent, efficient, and effective manner. We have a right to expect that our owner will spend a significant amount of money fielding as strong of a team as possible, and that they will not stupidly overpay players in a manner we don’t think represents an efficient, effective contract. At the same time, Tilman has every right to completely disregard any fan perspective and spend his own money however he damn well pleases. However - and this is the key part some of you are missing - we as fans also have every right to be pissed off about this. So when people express their concern or disgust over a player contract, please refrain from interpreting that as an attack on capitalism, and instead correctly interpret this as people expressing frustration that they feel the team has engaged in some level of jackassery.
Agreed. Even though I think the contracts given out so far aren’t terrible, I agree with the sentiment of this post. It annoys me when people act like spending doesn’t matter, going into the luxury tax, etc. reckless spending can hinder our ability to make moves down the line
The way it currently is laid out, the Rockets could have a max slot for free agency next offseason, or possibly two the year after, depending on the YoY increases. That IS efficient, and shows atleast some strategy in the way things are laid out. And to be blunt, fans are for the most part complete idiots, they have no idea how even basic things work in regards to the CBA, and demand immediate gratification, no matter what the constraints may be. I don't mean to be rude, but I will be realistic here.... fan expectations, mean dick.
If Amen is what we hope he is, this will be a great off-season. Cam too FVV is there to show Amen the ropes. I do like that they have added hard nosed defensive minded guys in FA. That was their biggest weakness. IMHO
With respect, you’ve completely missed my point. Having a thoughtful and nuanced difference of perspective on how the team is managing their salary cap and player assets is very, very different from saying “NOT YOUR MONEY, ITS TILMAN’S, SO YOU DONT GET A SAY, STFU!”
Well said. The Houston Rockets are an entertainment product. If we as sports fans think the product being put out sucks and is being managed poorly, we are well within our rights to publicly disparage the product, leave scathing reviews of bad management decisions, or even refuse to pay for said product (in the form of cable subscription fees, game tickets, merchandise, etc).
Preach brotha preach. This is exactly my feelings. They just come on to complain just to complain about any and everything… no dang clue about the process. All that fuss over two late first round picks that were not even starters, who by the way have been replaced by two new draft picks with more upside.I’m looking forward to the next move(s) after this great 3-4 team packaged deal Stone pulled off to retain more cap space. Connect 4 vs Chess…
Pardon, I thought your premise was the fans expect the team to be run in an smart efficient manner. As is, your point doesn't really warrant its own thread.
I look forward to being entertained by your forthcoming superior threads. BTW, this was you a few hours ago… Weird pivot to…
Free agency has been a bit of a disaster, but more by circumstance, not by management moves. And I can't recall if that was before or after the FVV team option news, which changes things quite a bit.
There is virtually no reason to be mad about the contracts handed to FVV and Brooks, there weren't many good free agents to begin with. The best free agents available were arguably FVV and Lopez. The Rockets wanted both and Brooks, they went 2 for 3 and got rid of the bench. The players that left weren't even role players, they were the dudes that landed us Jabari, Tari, Amen and Whitmore.... Yeah, The Rockets over paid and rightfully so. They had the luxury to do so and not doing it meant The Rockets were going in to next season with the same exact roster minus the head coach. The Rockets are ready to move this rebuild forward, FVV is perfect for this team at the moment and could easily be a long term Rocket for when they are potentially going all in for it. People actin like we traded away the core and instead of signing Durant and Luka they signed FVV and Brooks... Nah, they got some of the best talent available end of story. The Rockets are better, the rest is history. The mad dumb people are the @jerryclark s of the forum, who continually bash The Rockets for being trash but expect stars in return for the trash players that were sent out. As a Rockets fan I'm glad the team got better... They have stuck to the plan and refused to bring back bum Harden, they are rebuilding the team the right way.
This post is just an excuse for the endless whining. No intelligence or facts behind it just WE SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO CRY LOUDLY EVEN WHEN WE DONT FULLY UNDERSTAND OR KNOW WHATS GOING ON lol
