Out of all the Red Wedding victims, Usman "Destiny" Garuba is the one who I think may be the worst in hindsight. I think his upside is as a future rotation piece on a championship contender. Even fat and out of shape he registered not negative VORP. Think what he could do under Ime. He is that D and 3 guy that far outplays his contract.

Brooks is not exactly an analytics darling. He fouls a lot. He shoots a lot and doesn't pass the ball. He gets a lot of technicals. I think Garuba will easily outperform Brooks on the VORP measure - even if he skips to the Euroleague without playing in another NBA game.

Garuba never showed he could defend the perimeter, seemed only able to play C.

At 6'8 and unathletic, I don't really see how he has a long NBA career?

    JayGup: Chucker
    Garuba: Overweight and moody
    KJ: Helicopter dad
    TyTy: Amen Thompson
    Nix: Nix

Needed to cut fat and they did. Only TyTy I feel weird about but he had no shot with Amen/FVV here.

Garuba is good as a bench role player who wouldn't be paid much. Dillon Brooks got paid 20M a year after Memphis just told him to suck a big fat one. That's what's midn boggling to me. We gutted our roster to overpay for a dude nobody wanted.

The eye test will largely match most decent advanced stats if your eyes know what they are seeing.

To answer the question, Brooks best season ever when it comes to VORP was 0.0, that's as good as he's ever been. Garuba is good for at least 0.1 a year, so of course he'll outpace Brooks.

Honestly it's almost a lock that Brooks will have a larger negative number than Garuba has positive number.

I see him and TyTy going to Atlanta and doing the same thing our former starters Matthews and Fernando did when they went there last year: mostly ride the bench.

Exactly, I’m confused over the anger regarding these end of bench guys getting moved o_O

These are guys who barely played on a historically bad team.

Yes, I do believe Garuba is going to flourish. I really think he screwed up by showing up out of shape last season for no reason at all. Hadn't even gotten stronger. He will be a rotation piece on a contender in the future, he's just one of those guys. Would have been a great fit with Udoka too. We'll regret it in hindsight. However, in the big picture of being a contender, this oversight is not going to make or break our chances of winning a title.

I love seeing posters used to hiding behind statistics getting introduced to real basketball with Ime

First off, good troll job. Attack the messenger instead of saying why he is so good that he was voted 2nd team all defense. I am not hiding behind anything. Secondly, Now that he is on the team, I will wait until December 1st before posting another negative thing about Brooks. Don’t want to be known as a BOH. But, here is the thing about all the analytical measures - all the great players also look great by the analytical measures. Great teams look great when you look at the individual statistics like shooting percentage, assist to turnovers, rebound rates, steal rates and so on. When Dillon Brooks popped up as a free agent target - at the same time he was antagonizing Lebron in the playoffs, I went and took a look at his player history and paid attention to why Memphis wanted to let him go and posted that I preferred other options for the same money and same role. Hopefully Ime can coach Dillon to be the best version of himself.
