Not the ideal signing, but you guys are way overreacting. Our team has been desperate for veteran leadership for a while, now we sign two vets and everyone is mad; Just give it a chance. Can’t be worse than what we’ve been putting out there.

Salaries decrease over the 4 years apparently and we don’t know what incentives are built in. It could get better from here (let’s hope…).

Descending value per year is a small glimmer of hope.

    Could look something like 26/22/18/14

Can only go down by x% a year (think 8%). @BimaThug will have the truth.

At least he didn't lead the NBA in total fouls like he did for a couple of years. Advanced analytics hate players who hack shooters as a free throw is the most efficient shot in basketball. Brooks is a hacker.

Are you sure about that last part? If Brooks had been on our team, he would have had a lower FG% and 3P% than all of our players who played more than 60 games this season.

Brooks was one of the 2-3 worst offensive players in the league last year. He shot very poorly, did not pass the ball, and did it all on volume (14-15 shots per game). He was right up there with Jabari Smith Jr. & Daishen Nix as players who hurt their teams the most (according to VORP).

But he has a mean face, so 2nd team all defense. You know what leads to bad defense... starting a fast break for the other team by chucking up a bad shot...

Great “culture” signing, culture so good he’s own team doesn’t even want him.

Just because you have been in the league long enough to be a called doesn't mean you provide any beneficial leadership at all.

The worst thing about this contract is dude is going to be unbenchable for at least 3 years. We're all going to have to suffer through his chucking for a looong time. And don't give me that crap about "everything will be earned", you know that only applies to the young players on rookie contracts, not guys getting paid $20M buckaroos

The FVV deal isn't bad at all at 2 years + TO imo.

    Houston Rockets

Deal: Agreed to a reported four-year, $80 million contract with forward Dillon Brooks

I'm less excited about Saturday's reported deals, which followed Houston striking out on luring Brook Lopez away from the Milwaukee Bucks. It's possible the Rockets had to pay a premium to keep their other targets from signing elsewhere while negotiating with Lopez. Brooks, who reportedly wasn't welcome back with the Memphis Grizzlies at any price, certainly wasn't returning at $20 million a year over four years. Meanwhile, Landale went from the minimum to $8 million annually.

On the plus side, Brooks immediately provides a massive upgrade to Houston's perimeter defense. Over the last three years, his defensive impact in luck-adjusted regularized adjusted plus-minus (RAPM) from NBAshotcharts.com ranks in the NBA's top 20 with only a handful of wings ahead of him.

The challenge for new Rockets head coach Ime Udoka will be keeping Brooks from giving up much of that value with his shot selection. On a team with plenty of talented shot creators, Brooks maintaining even last year's 22% usage rate while on the court -- his lowest since 2018-19 -- is unworkable given his inefficiency. Brooks' .494 true shooting percentage (TSP) last season, a career low, ranked ahead of only Kilian Hayes of the Detroit Pistons among players who saw at least 2,000 minutes of action.

As Udoka looks to reset Houston's culture, having Brooks avoid the kind of media confrontations in which he specialized last season will also be important. Offering a rich four-year deal doesn't exactly send Brooks the message that he needs to change his priorities, though that may have been delivered behind the scenes. Either way, adding Brooks compromises some of the shooting upgrade the Rockets got with VanVleet.

Maybe Ime pulls a SVG in Detroit and Tillman ends up eating Brooks' salary until 2035, but that would eat into LTS so he probably gets jettisoned for a first or two.

Watch us dangle a first round pick to get rid of this contract.

There's something wrong if his own playoff team refuses his service. It's a sign u don't overpay for him

These are the big issues I have with Dillon Brooks acquisition:
    • It’s not clear why we had to give him a fully guaranteed 4 yr $80M contract. Who were we bidding against. Why couldn’t we just pay him slightly above the MLE for 2 years?
    • We had to dump recent draft picks on rookie deals to make way for him
    • Is he that much better than the wings we already had on the roster (e.g. Martin, Eason)?

So much for going for Veteran leadership and improved culture. Very clear they want to have the most inefficient shooting in modern nba.

I know people are saying Ime will put Dillon in his place, but why should Brooks listen? He already got paid, and he got paid through years of being a net negative player who takes shots away from better players, why should he change now?

It's like when a woman marries a man who's abusive and expects him to change, utter lunacy.
