FVV was in the right place at the right time. We have to spend somewhere. Wish they would have started with a smaller percentage on the minimum team salary and ramped it up. Yr 1:80% Yr 2:85% Yr 3:90% Should have learned from the gs/durant travesty.
This is a fantastic signing. The Rockets needed a floor general, and this will impact Jalen Green more than anybody. Bring KPJ off the bench & sign a rim running big that'll help on D when Sengun gets outmatched
I don’t like the third year, it may hurt the Rockets flexibility. That said, does anyone want to keep going down the same path the Rockets have been going down? This very well should be the beginning of future success for the team. I’m willing to ride this out longer because I’m seeing major signs that the team is ready to win.
He's also replacing the best shooter on the team....which means at best it's a wash....a REALLY REALLY expensive wash.
I'm okay with it. It's an overpay but we are a poverty franchise right now and you have to get someone to move toward digging your way out of it. The basketball fit is good enough that it doesn't matter yet that FVV is being overpaid by $10 million plus. It may be a problem if the boss is cheap when it comes time to pay the youth.
His scoring efficiency last year was the same as Russell Westbrook's only year in Houston. If he can't correct his shooting, we're in serious spacing trouble...
This is how the negotiations went. *FVV sends a text to the Raptors FO "See you soon when I'm done with these jokers"* -Rockets "Give us a number to make this happen" -FVV "I want $4 million more than the 3/$126 Kyree signed *snickering*" -Rockets "Done, what else?" -FVV *drops phone and it breaks* "And a new phone" -FVV's agent grabs several drinks from the mini bar... "And these!" -Rockets "Take em... just leave a few for Lopez, will ya?"
Would have been okay with the 2 year max because it would be an expiring next year with at least neutral if not slightly positive trade value. The 3rd year kills that. I'm still all about Amen's development and having a good role model so i still just barely voted yay on the signing.
I knew we’d have to overpay but that 3rd year is ouch. Oh well…better than Head Honcho back for another season driving the offense. Now let’s hope there’s enough left for Lopez. And if we have to overpay again then oh well again. Don’t let money get in the way of “the plan”. And just think of it as no more money left for Dillion.
I didn't say it was a downgrade. But the rockets were already one of the worst shooting teams in the league and they just keep adding players who can't shoot, I don't really like it.
This is the adult in the room we needed to make everyone else fall in line and live up to their potential. Unlike with Kyrie and Harden you’re never going to question his commitment, both in practices and in the games. And unlike Lowry, he’s still in his prime at 29. He’ll be worth it for two years at least, and after that he becomes a useful expiring to play around with in trades.
We just signed the best available free agent at a position of greatest need. A guy who is a career .372 from 3, is an all star and NBA champion (.372 from 3 in the playoffs AND 42% from 3 in the finals) And know-it-all internet fans are passing their knickers because hE cAnT ShOoT Uh. Yeh.
