To haters: you b!tched and moaned about his being too short, and HE GREW FOR YOU! This is superior work ethics for you, you bunch of ungrateful bastards.
That remains to be seen. The entire reason I am giving him a pass on my end is because I have no idea how he would look when everyone else is playing proper, disciplined team D.
All I’ve spoke is facts, the metrics say he’s the best defender on this team after Tari. The guards have been worse, that is what Vecenie said. If you took good defender compared to the league that’s on you. We’re speaking about the rockets
Interesting. So by this logic you're saying most players on the roster will surpass him at D this offseason, especially KPJ & JG, right?
Oh, you did. You said: 1. Entire team sucks at D, esp. KPJ & JG. 2. Sengun's one of the better defenders. You also said: You're giving him a pass because you don't know how his D will look in a better D scheme. Which 9 players will develop enough to play good team D? Do we trade for 9 new, defensive-minded players? How do you know the idiots on the roster will 1- buy in to the scheme and 2- manage to execute it? Sengun is a European team player. How can you assume everybody will show progress and he will not?
The metrics say he was a good defensive center with the surrounding talent around him. Not great, not elite but serviceable even compared to some of the leagues better known defensive centers. That doesn’t mean the team was good or he made an impact, it shows he wasn’t the main reason for bad defense. Which is what a few of us have been pointing out
A lot of projection on your end going on here. All I said is that everyone sucked on D and that Sengun ended up being one of the better defenders because he actually tried. As for where he lands and how effective he ends up, that depends on a variety of things like what kind of defensive system and schemes we end up using, who plays next to him and how hard they are trying, and how he is able to rise up to those new and better defined roles and expectations.
Yes. I was expecting ideas, at least solid opinions from you. That's why I rushed into counterarguments too fast. Now I see that you're just listing uncertainties, ambiguities, probabilities... Please ignore what I've been writing.
There are simply far too many variables at this point for me to force an opinion. If we look at the Celtics D under Ime, he seemed to really like utilizing a team D involving two roaming bigs. If he tries to implement the same system with the Rockets, Sengun would definitely not be the ideal candidate. If we try to use a switch system, then Sengun will probably end up looking awful as he eats the dust clouds left behind by speedy guards. This isn't even beginning to talk about things like final roster, individual effort, and individual improvements.
I keep reading on twitter and here and honestly don't understand why ppl think he hasn't earned his spot yet. Don't get me wrong i'm not saying he's a finished product or Jokic but just remember how god awful this team has been in the last 3 years. Remember all the sh*t we have gone through and this kid was the clear best player in the last season and year b4 that he was arguably the best rookie or let's say more consistent rookie we had. Now you are telling me that out of all the brick layer guards, low bbiq rookies, the ones who can't finish the simplest layups HE is the one who has to earn his spot? If this team wasn't complete dogs.t i'd agree with you but that's not the case. He's not playing with allstars, guys with 3 rings. If you are bringing Lopez and starting him i can't have any problem with that as a fan because Lopez is still good but don't tell me he hasn't earned his spot in this team. That's really not fair. What we are doing is bringing an all star to start over an already good kid. We are benching a kid that doesn't deserve to be benched tbh. If we get Lopez sengun will have to fight for a while, probably months or a year to take his spot back but Jalen and Jabari will not go through this struggle, they will start next season. It's always been an uphill battle for him at least we should give him that and i'm hoping that he doesn't break.
