I don't think TyTy has had a fair shake yet. Let him have a year under Udoka. He was a projected mid-first rounder and dropped 52 and 10 on the avioers in short order. Hell, Scoot couldn't even do that.
You are correct on the numbers but not in practical terms. The goal for FA this year is competency. As in smart veterans to help support the youngsters. But assuming things actually progress, in 2025 off-season we want a star. And if there is a star available in 2025 offseason then none of our role players will get in the way of clearing the capspace necessary. The Garubas TyTys of the world can all be easily cleared to make way for a star. And if there is no star, then the Rockets don't really need full max space. But keeping contracts this year to 2 will allow the chance that we get a star in 2 years. Or be enough of a threat and force a trade if someone wants come here.
The National Media perpetuates this narrative that the Rockets have like 4 guys on the court all wanting to go one on one and it is "my turn to cook" on offense. In some respects it is the Silas Tax of him letting KPJ and Green ISO all the time. But that is then and this is now where the team needs a FLOOR GENERAL to organize the offense and help set up guys like Green and Jabari who are shooter off the ball.
I wouldn't put that on a media conspiracy. Last year, Rockets were: Worst in assists 4th worst in secondary assists Worst in potential assists Worst in assist points created 3rd worst in adjusted assists Worst in assist to pass ratio
Ok, so it is not a national media conspiracy, then. We don't pass. We especially don't pass in a way that enables others to score. It is objectively true that the person with the ball almost exclusively looks to score - they aren't looking to setup a teammate. That's all I'm trying to say.
I'm okay with FVV. Not with Dillon Brooks. I hope we can get a useful return for him. A low FRP and a good SRP.
As crazy as it may sound, a contract starting at 9.4M (which is where Kenyon Sr started) wouldn't be terrible value for KJMjr in today's NBA. I don't want to pay him that money, but a contender might be OK with it? Tate is a complete bargain at his price
We were worst in potential assists. We were a bad passing team because we were a bad passing team. If anything, you've got it backwards - we didn't hit shots because we were a bad passing team.
https://theathletic.com/4644834/2023/06/28/nba-free-agency-2023-preview-raptors/ Prediction: The Raptors re-sign VanVleet to a four-year, $130-million contract, with a fourth-year player option. I think the Raptors will be aggressive in trying to retain VanVleet unless the bidding gets to extremely high levels — maybe in the $40 million annually range. Note: Get used to these sorts of numbers. A starting salary for VanVleet on that contract would be around $29 million, which would be more than 21 percent of the projected cap. That is right around where his last contract started.
“The Rockets want to sign [Fred] VanVleet to a max two-year deal projected at $83.6 million… …VanVleet and Memphis' Dillon Brooks continue to be the free agents most frequently billed as Houston-bound this week, with James Harden increasingly projected to return to Philadelphia on a two or three-year contract…”
For FVV, it's probably a smart thing to take this max... re-up for your final big deal after this one ends in the range of 4 years, 120+ million.
