I’ve been pushing for KJ for a few years now (especially over Tate) but we do need a consolidation trade and he is a better trade asset than Tate so he would theoretically bring back more. I can’t wait to see him on another team after Silas continually pushed him down… I would love to see what Udoka could do w his defensive abilities but I think the ship has sailed.
Don’t disagree that he’s as good as gone….but please enlighten me to the horrible defense. Rockets are +12 when he’s on the floor and he is a monster blocker. Not buying this theory that he doesn’t play defense. Maybe someone can post a video to prove me wrong.
I looove kmj. I would love to keep him but I can easily see him not wanting the same. He was kind of talking trade via his dad after coming off a down year last offseason. He def showed growth this last year and we added another first round small forward to the line up. Add to that talks of adding a 5 and at times playing Bari at 3, and potential of kpj playing 3, it's only a matter of time before he demands a trade
KMJ is a nice player but he is not a elite defensive specialist or a elite 3 point shooter. He cannot shoot like Cam Johnson or play defense like Dillion Brooks. He is just a nice player and he wants 15-19 million and we cannot do that. We need a perimeter defender, interior defender and a veteran point guard. We need to trade him
Not hate....it's love Letting the guy join a team that has shooters so he can prosper. If the Rockets had shooters......then we would keep him. Plus he and his daddy want him to leave us at years end. Pock us in the eye....we (Rockets) pock you in the eye first....with love of course
He’s a good player, the only skill he really excels at is cutting and dunking. He’s average at best on defense and rebounding.
I think he should be a core piece, but you kinda get the feeling he’s not particularly happy based on things his dad has said in the past. I don’t think that has done him any favors around here. I’d keep him personally, unless you get a really decent haul back in return, but my guess is that he’s probably gone soon.
It’s hard for me to believe the defensive gap between Brooks and Martin is bigger then the offensive one, but it seems like that might just be the FO’s bet. Also to consider, Whitmore and Thompson should both be able to do exactly what KJ does offensively, and when signing someone like Brooks in FA, it allows us to trade KJ for some value, it isn’t exactly Brooks Vs KJ but Brooks + asset Vs KJ I love Martin, dude is one of the most insane athletes I’ve ever seen, slam dunk of find by the FO late in the 2nd round. He’s still very young, he can improve defensively, he keeps improving offensively, if he ever develops a consistent 3-ball moving him could come back to bite us in the ass. Would be really really nice to see him under Ime, under the new shooting coach Sullivan, and along side a starting caliber PG, I just don’t see where the minutes come from after the rookie + FA additions
As others have said, I don't think there is any hate. It is a combination of these factors: - he requested a trade for more playing time so he might be gone come FA anyways (or complain if his minutes get cut or if he comes of the bench again) - he is one of the rare players on our roster, that have value on the trade market and that doesn't seem to have star potential - with Cam, Tari, Tate and possibly KPJ we have too many players for the SF position. - Cam as a player seems to be similar to KJM, but he is a lot younger, comes in the league with a better 3pt shot and better on the ball defense - and he should be a bit taller as well - while KJM is a pretty good player, he still needs to improve his shooting, defense and playmaking Overall I don't think anybody would be mad if we kept him. And I believe most people would like to move Tate before him - but Tate with his contract is at best a neutral asset that's not that easy to move. Of all our players, KJM seems to be the most valuable that is also expendable.
He's great he just doesn't play defense. Between him and Jalen they make us one the worst defenses in the league. People blame Sengun but if you actually look at the numbers its those two.
I understand there are certain aspects of fondness towards a player but we should not get too emotionally invested here. I would rather move Tate but the problem is Kenyon is probably more attractive to other teams.
The Rockets would be haunted no matter what because of the Silas years. And not getting Wemby, not getting Banchero.
He’s not a good on ball defender nor shooter. We need a 3 that can guard Tatum, KD, Kawhi, LeBron, etc… KJ just doesn’t bring that to the table
You have no idea what hate is. KJM is beloved on this board because he provides so much on a minimum salary. But everyone knows he is essentially a back up in this league. With so much interest from other teams, everyone knows now is the time to cash in and get something for him. Other teams know he is vastly outplaying his contract. Once he is extended, all of that outside interest will dry up. Once KJM is given a $12m contract, everyone here will be calling him an overpaid scrub. That’s when you’ll see the real hatred.
A few major tidbits that were big hits with the fans was Ime's recent comments about nothing handed out, has to be earned, different roles for players, etc... This dude and his dad, complained to the media about playing time, asked to be traded, and aired dirty laundry if you will. If you put yourself out there, above the team, you open up opportunities for fans to choose their favorite team over a player.
Love KJ! Think he’s a great player and one of the most exciting players on our 20 win team. Unfortunately it’s a numbers game. He probably has more value than say Garuba or JC. So the question becomes would you rather have KJ or FVV or Robin Lopez or…
