Can Rockets play zone defense?

the defensive 3 seconds? should not make an impact unless our guys keep camping in the paint.

The 3 pt line has been the same distance for awhile - so it shouldnt make too much of a difference.

however, my take on this is why doesnt JVG use any zone? I cant recall at anytime him using a zone.

I wouldnt prefer using the zone but it creates a different look for the defense and might be useful to mix things up.

any ideas?

Yes the Rox should play a zone - you need to use every weapon you can. It would help against teams like the Mavs and Kings

 

maybe i'm alittle thick but how would it help against the mavs and kings? don't they like raining 3s on you? should you be contesting and guarding the players closely who camp outside (and are good at it)?

 

If our boys rotate quickly, it can be effective.

Yao does not rotate quickly. He'd pick up some fouls. Tmac has poor instincts. Lue is tiny.

 

I think zone would be more effective against slashing teams.. it would help neutralize some of the leagues dominant big men too.

I dont want to use zone as our main defense but against certain matchups it might be quite useful. To kind of mix things up..

We barely ever used the zone, but on the few times we did, it resulted in an immediate ball reversal leading to a wide open 3pt shot, and JVG cursing and wondering why he ever called the zone.

This happened on more than 3 occassions I can remember clearly, but the reason we sucked at it is because we barely used it, but maybe we barely used it because we sucked at it...
