I may have missed something, but won't he be a UFA? We can just offer him a contract, no need to deal with the Blazers
Based on Clutch's interview above (or previous page)... I don't think we're getting Dame. But let's say Van Vleet doesn't work, could jump into the eventual Heat - Blazers trade (not buying the Nets smoke). HOU - POR - MIA POR: Oladipo's expiring K (MIA) + Jovic (MIA) + 3 MIA FRPs (2024, 2026, 2028 top 10 protected) + maybe pick swap in 2025 (MIA) Send Dame to 1 of his preferred destinations for years of loyalty. Pick up 3 FRPs. Clear cap space. Begin the rebuild. Could also send out Nurkic at trade deadline. Could also S&T Jeremi Grant to a key destination (SA? Indy? Orlando?) Oladipo takes buyout (Miami send $$$ to help). Good base to build with as most of the team is under 24. Starters: Scoot - Simons - Sharpe - Jovic - Nurkic Bench: Nix (LOL) - Keon Johnson - Little / Walker - Murray - Watford / Badji / Butler. MIA: Lillard (POR) + Nix (HOU) Mostly run it back for NBA finalist with the addition of Lillard without giving up Herro. Riley finds some more UDFAs who buy into Heat's culture. Spoelstra devises game plan. Jimmy gets 'em in line (can I just stop to dream about what could have been if Himmy was a Rocket a few years back... sploosh). Anyway... Lillard / Vincent - Herro / Robinson - Himmy / Martin / Jacquez - Love / Highsmith - Bam / Yurtseven is formidable. One vet big man looking for a ship run would make them top 3 in the East IMHO. HOU: Lowry (MIA) + ATL 2024 SRP (via POR) Rox get vet leader for part of the year and could trade (or buy him out) at deadline after rookies soak up prep (& nutrition) habits. I know others have suggested such - just appears a step closer to reality today.
I’m fine with Lopez, Brooks and FVV as the FA offseason additions. But I hope we at least consider keeping some significant cap space for next year (maybe by trading for an expiring player that can contribute) because it’s likely to be significantly better than this year. I’m also very eager to see what we can get for our on-core players in a trade. This is really we’re we have to recoup some value on the stranded assets we have. The rockets really need to make a trade; ideally before free agency.
if we sign guys like lopez in free agency the contracts will likely be 1 front-loaded 2 4-yr deals with 2-3 yrs non guaranteed these make nice stretchable trade assets for teams like the clippers bucks heat and warriors who are looking to escape the repeater luxury tax we are still in asset accumulating mode and there's at least 2 more iterations before we actually fill out our cap 1 sign guys to 4-yr front-loaded deals with last 2-3 years non-guaranteed so they can be traded to repeater tax teams for cap relief then at the deadline 2 trade guys like tate/martin jr if we haven't already for guys in their final year deals so we have cap space to work with again next summer trade targets lowry plus an asset for cap relief for miami paul plus an asset for cap relief for the warriors paul plus two assets for cap relief plus a cheap contract like tate that is actually a solid rotation piece morris and covington plus an asset into cap space morris and covington plus 2 assets for tate and kmjr then morris and covington renegotiated and extended with non guaranteed decreasing salaries so they can be flipped at the deadline for expiring contracts and another couple assets more kpjr contracts please step right up leandro bolmaro jevon carter ayo dosunmu others
Who cares who starts man? From the Rockets perspective it's good to sign a vet center, Lopez fits the team like a glove with hsi defense and spacing ability. It's up to Sengun to either beat out Lopez or he can learn from Lopez and come from the bench. It's the same reasoning why we want a veteran pg even if we just spent 4rth pick on Amen. Only SoFs will complain about this, and even then this is good for Sengun's long term development cuz he will learn how to be a good defender from Lopez.
I think we are going after a veteran point guard(FVV), interior defender(Brook Lopez) perimeter defender(Dillion Brooks) 100 million for 3 years-FVV 40 million for 2 years-Lopez 34 minor 2 years-Brooks Trade Martin and TyTy Washington and cut Tate FVV is a good defense and shooter, champion pedigree Lopez is a good interior defender, good 3 point shooter and championship pedigree-1st team all defense Brooks is a good defender and a bully-2nd team all defense coach Ime wants shooters and defenders

I wonder if we could sign Dillon Brooks on a 1 year prove it deal? Likewise could pay Lopez his biggest annual salary in his career for one year. I also would like to have max cap room next summer.
Sengun still undervalued by the Rockets' organization even though Jalen Green and KPJ, God love them, have significant weaknesses of their own.
Personally…. I think…. Lopez/Sengun (or vice versa) Smith/Eason Brooks/KPJ Green/KPJ/Whitmore FVV/Bev/Amen goes 44-38 with health.
You are probably right about the vet additions, but if Udoka wants shooters and defense then Tate (even Garuba) fits the bill for the latter Also its a 82 game season so expect those vets to get knicked up at some point and having depth like TyTy, and those others maybe wise to keep around Now if you have to move on from Nix/Boban then of course, and maybe even KJ who wants a starter role that is highly unlikely but would be a nice energy piece off bench for another team at the deadline (if they decide to not trade him this offseason)
well hopefully his injury is better. But i think either way is good. We still have a lot of capspace and we'd be getting back a pick. We can then sign someone we really want later instead of using it on overpaid role players
I think FVV, Lopez, Brooks is a solid play... Lopez/Sengun Smith/Eason/Tate Brooks/Cam Green/KPJ/JC FVV/Amen/Tyty
If you have to get a vet wing, much rather get Grant Williams over Dillion Brooks. While both have defense, Grant has a more reliable 3 and doesn't need the ball (and shots) to be happy. Just playing time is enough. Ime also coached him, so there's a side bonus for getting the new system underway. Both probably command similar money, get the guy who isn't the locker room headache. I believe the Rockets org is interested in Dillion, and that scares me. Whitmore fell into Stone's lap, don't burn the recent goodwill from fans by signing Dillion.
Maybe, but I’m not sure you can get there without trading KPJ’s salary. You might be able to sneak them in only getting rid of Tate. I guess we’ll see.
This is true. Blazers want to keep him. He is a free agent, but the Blazers are working on a long range contract for him. Unless Dame leaves and they want to tank, i expect Jerami is back with the Blazers.
I don't see KPJ traded at this point without a star coming back. I think it's an unknown whether Jalen or KPJ will perform on the defensive end for Udoka and KPJ is a solid backup plan if Jalen doesn't improve on defense. Udoka doesn't strike me as a coach who will tolerate poor play on one end to get good play on the other.
