[WOJ] Hawks trade John Collins to Jazz for Rudy Gay and future 2nd Rd Pick

I'm sure by the end of FA we can take a large salary to ride the pine.

If we were to get Brooks, he is of a similar level to Collins, and plays a position of need - so would actually get on the court for us.

I'm of the opinion we at least try to use our 60M for positions of need before pivoting to taking on salary!

The finger seemingly has never recovered. Or it didn't heal right, or something. So the dude is probably Ben Simmons, just without the potential and the defense.

Collins has only two things going for him - youth and being a lob threat. And that's it.

Somewhere somehow, Atlanta should have thrown in Shane Battier to balance the trade.

 

Rudy Gay still in the league was a shocker for me like everyone else here.

I am also surprised that in a few seasons John Collins became tradable for a washed vet like Rudy Gay. Wow.

 

The gist of the deal is Hawks dumping salary. Rudy G. used for matching purposes.

With Collins gone, they're supposedly around 9 mil under the cap. This is already Including the four non guaranteed contracts, which includes Rockets Legends (tm): Bruno Fernando and Garrison Mathews.

It's a fanincial flexibility move and Utah obliged, renting their cap space and still get a somewhat useful player.

If you could get him for KPJ, I’d probably do it. Before this trade, you might have been able to trade for Murray sending minimal assets back. Now I think they can be a little more picky. But if the team doesn’t significantly improve, I doubt they will be a favorite to re-Sign him, so he might be available between now and the deadline.
