The worst people in the world are going to take the things you love and make them worse. Because they can. Hopefully Ted Leonsis gave them a no trade clause
This is really weird. So now we have tiny, super rich Gulf kingdoms buying a minority interest in an NBA team? In the nation's capital, no less? Too strange, in my opinion.
They've done it all over Paris, Zürich and London. The leagues will happily take their money no matter what strings they attach.
I'd never thought I'd see the day when the greedy NFL conducts a better ownership system. In case you didn't know, no sovereign funds can own a piece of an NFL team.
Is that in the NFL's bylaws? I'd imagine everyone has a price and teams like the Cowboys are a big prize for these sovereign wealth funds.
I believe NBA has a "no majority ownership" rule, but that's just paper. Also, NFL going to " hold my beer " on this very soon. It's inevitable.
Exactly. They see the money pumped into PSG, Newcastle, (maybe) Manchester United, Manchester City, F1, golf, etc. The NFL is always about the money. What do you think will happen when the Qataris, Saudis or Emiratis approach Mark Davis about buying the Raiders? That's one of the biggest brands in football and he doesn't have any revenue streams beyond the team. Everyone has a price. The PGA showed us that.
This seems like one of the rare things you could probably get bipartisan agreement on in congress... ban sovereign foreign ownership in major league domestic sports. It's a stupid thing for them to spend time on, but it's not like they're going to get anything else productive done anyway this term.
What's even more crazy is the biggest oil supplier is from south America in Venezuela area, south America was also the original gold coast inclusive with California / 7 cities of Cibola etc Even in Oklahoma(black wall st) years ago they were pulling like 3k barrels of oil weekly out of that area Those sovereign fund entities are just decoys/placeholders, just like thinking we purchase oil from a so called Middle East(decoy)
